6BR-200yd groups

After trying Hornady 87 &105g with several powders, etc, I tried some 68g Watson and AA2520 and Varget. These are at 200yds.

The top right is all Varget with 68gr. Six, 3 shot grps ranged from 0.68 to 1.8". Three had all windage, little vertical. Bottom left is AA2520 w/68gr (2 grps-0.39 (only 2 shots) & 0.50"; and H105BTHP with RE15 (3 grps, .56, .75 & 1.1". I took the trigger blade off today (only about 3 total hours of fiddling around) ::) I flinched on that long windage group in the top right pic, and threw one right about 1.5". The other 2 in the bull were under 0.1". 65 yrs of pulling triggers, including Jewells, are not conducive to that damn blade. Anyway, I thought there might be some interest in the lighter bullets and AA2520 in the 8 twist bbl. Thanks. Ron.

Are we talking about a savage with the accutrigger? If we are I would put that blade back in as it may fire on closing the bolt.Ask me how I know.If you really hate the savage trigger then why not get a rifle basix sav-2 trigger, much better trigger IMHO.

Jonbear, thanks for the heads up. Been there myself. When I first got my M12 in 204R (this spring, used), I couldn't fire only about 1 out of 3 tries. I tightened it up and no more probs with that, about 1 1/2lb. I just shoot off bags/bench and load single, only after line is hot. I think any trigger, no matter what make. will fire on bolt closing if set too light. Will have to get out and shoot it, see how it works. Seems ok now at home. Just got a Weaver T36. Am saving pennies for Basix next. Thanks. Ron.

Buck 89, help me out here , I see many people post they shot a point 1 or like you said a .014, how? if your shooting a 6mm that is a .243, I understand that the hole won't be .243, for example today I was shooting my 6.5x47, even though the bullet is .264 vthe hole on paper was .214. It is my understanding in group type shooting most measure from center to center of hole furthest apart, so I'm trying to figure out how some say they shoot a .1 or in your case .014, Help me out here.

I don't know .014, you said .257 even in half would be .128 now that in half is .064 that in half is .032 so how do you get .014

RE: 2520-- It will group unbelievably sometimes and at other times be all over the clock face. With target rifle I was getting groups at 265 yds that would amaze you, two days later at a match, it wouldnt group in the 9 ring. Thoroughly cleaned barrel went back to stick powder and cleaned up the following matches.

Good info. Haven't shot enough 2520 to find out much, just what I posted above. Am looking for more, as I only have about 1/2lb left. Were you using similiar-6br, fast twist and light bullets? Thanks, Ron.

I'm very pleased with the Sav-2 trigger in my 6BR F12.
This is a five shot group at 220 yds with 30.2 gns of Varget and 108gn Berger bullets.
One of my few groups that managed to scrape into the ones.

Very nice shooting. Hope I can become that proficient in time. Re:the accutrigger, It may be the cat's pajamas for some, I suspect younger shooters who have not pre-programmed their syntax to touch the trigger and go boom :) I suspect that one who shoots the blade style for 40 more years will be cursing those damn triggers without a blade. Maybe I can call down/up "I told you so" ::)

Another thing that has been concerning me, is the heavier bullets (H87 and 105s) are not truly match quality. If they were I probably wouldn't have been able to find them. I see some Berger 90g BT match at store, only $40. Maybe I will bite the bullet, so to speak, and give them a try. Ron.

6X44BR, 1:14 , 68gr Rubright BT, ~ 3400+fps; groups @ 265 yds could run less than 1/2" for 8 or 10 shots. Until!

1066,
NICE! .4 OF AN ICH AND .19moa LOOKS GOOD

Thanks - The 6BR is just such a sweet cartridge to shoot. My norm with this rifle is about .3-4 moa (Shilen select match barrel, 1in8, 4 groove ratchet).

1066, I think I just wore that same barrel out it would shoot 1/4 moa at 200 yards no problem on a savage varmint action and won a few what they call factory matches, your allowed to change barrels, lands are about .010 to .015 deeper and the beswt I get now is .7 of an inch at 200, I been wanting to send it to them and maybe have it rechambered in a 6x47L

I think about that every time I pull the trigger now - It took me eight months and a raft load of hoops to jump through to get the barrel direct from Shilen as a personal import into the UK, being a pre-fit barrel I was able to build the rifle myself out of "off the peg" bits. Very pleased with the results too.
