6BR 105 Hybrid Freebore?

The average OAL of the lot of Hybrids I have is 1.250. Freebore for a OAL of 2.30?

At 2.30 top of the boat-tail should be right at the neck/shoulder junction.

Thanks

I wouldn't want it right at the junction. I would want it ahead of it. Call Dave Kiff he can tell you how much freebore.

Hi off,,,I have shot lots of dif, chamber in 6mmBR configuration,,,,with todays bullets (105 class) I would not want the FB any shorter than .080" and prefer it somewhere around .120",,,,that way if you jam em there will be aprox . .180 of shank engaged in the neck and lots of room to seat deeper for jumping and you will still be .050"-.060" above the donut area,,,I prefer to stay at least .030 above the neck/shoulder jct. (that is how far out the donut will curl)........Roger

Thanks Roger.

I posted the question for a friend who's putting together a 6BR on an Eliseo repeater chassis. Max OAL for the Eliseo mags is 2.385. Guessing the Hybrids will be .030 above the neck/shoulder junction and still be under 2.385.

Kevin,,,with .080 FB and jammed the LOAL is ~.2.380" ,,,,so you are rite there,,,,and this has ~.100 clearance to the donut,,,soooo,,,you culd seat much deeper and jump em,,,,sounds like the rite combo ,,,of course if you lengthen the FB ...you will have to jump em because you cant go any longer,,,,,that is the problem when using mag fed ammo,,,,hope this helps,,,Roger

Don't forget to keep in mind the FAT shanked Berger bullets floating around! Somehow they think .2435"-.2439" shanked bullets are acceptable?

Kevin, With my 6mm Br reamer that has .114 freebore from dave kiff my loaded rounds using 105 Hybrids that are approx .010 into the lands are running 2.405 overall length. Interestingly enough my 6 dasher with .125 freebore is running almost exactly the same cartridge length. Bore diameter does effect how long the bullet has to be seated until it touches the lands. Also keep in mind that some barrels prefer bullets to be jumped.

By looking at equipment lists, I'd say they are acceptable.

By looking at equipment lists, I'd say they are acceptable. I think Berger bullets are good but they do vary from lot to lot and sometimes they get fatter. When I find a good lot I buy all I can. I like to buy minimum of 3 to 4 thousand when they run good because you don't know what you get down the road. Most match shooters buy a lot at a time. Sometimes I have enough for 5 to 6 seasons. So you never know how old the bullets are.
