6ARC or 6.5 Grendel?

Not about chasing records but getting the best rifle for your money and using that money smart. He is already planning a custom set up with a good action in a few months. That Howa money would be better spent on a barrel for that set up.
Still it is all relative. My whole point was that I built a low cost rifle and it has done very well. At the same time spending another $2k to $3k on a custom rifle was not going to improve my scores. Spending money does not always bring success.

Besides I seen no harm in purchasing an entry level item just to get a feel for it. Who knows, he may have quickly learned that the ARC/Grendel wasn't what he was looking for either. In my case I spent nearly a year before deciding on building an ARC over a 6BR.

Then, even now I get people telling me a 6ARC bolt rifle is a waste of time and money.

I have now bought several Howa Minis in 6ARC and 6.5 Grendel. All started out as barreled actions. If you plan to use a suppressor then you want to buy the barreled action featuring a 20” barrel. The 20” barrel is maybe a No. 7 profile, which is a medium-heavy sporter profile (approx .7” diameter at muzzle) that comes threaded. By comparison the 22” version is a light weight barrel profile that is not threaded and too thin to have threaded later.

Sure wish I wouldn't have missed your comment before I bought that Howa mini. Would have saved me some grief. Because you were dead on accurate. I bought the 22" for the speed and got this little gun in with a barrel about the size of a McDonald's drinking straw. LOL.. live and learn. And to make it even better, it shoots like crap.

Yes, Berger 105 Hybrid over 27.7gr of Leverevolution with Starline brass through a Shilen 28" 4groove 7.5 twist no brake.
Thought I'd give an update on that little Howa mini 6ARC. Well... Shoots like shit. So I've about decided I'll punt and just spin a new barrel on. Right out of the gate, with the limited factory ammo that's available in 6ARC, the smallest group I shot was like 1.2". Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. What kind of speeds are you getting out of that 28" barrel? I haven't quite decided what length barrel to go with yet. Or what chassis for that matter. At least without spending more money on the chassis than the while gun is worth.

I am hitting around 2800fps though I have been able to reach 2930fps but the groups really started to open up. I was originally looking to go with a 26" barrel but NSS had this 28" on the shelf and I had it in 4 days.

Right now I am shooting this on a Boyd's At-One stock has has just a front pillar and glass bedded.
