69 and 77 SMK ?

I have read that these SMK bullets were developed for the AR platform for a longer jump. What other bullet in this weight class would be an excellent choice for 300 yard F class target shooting ? My rifle is a Tikka T3x Varmint 223 with 1/8 twist ?

I have shot the 223 and 223AI in mid-range F Class using Berger's 80.5. Other bullets work, of course, but, I have yet to find commercial bullets that are consistent in weight and LTO.

i would look at the 77 tmk, I find them extremely consistent in bto and by weight, bc is not much greater than the smk, in factory tikka coal will probably be in the region of 2.4"

I shoot 69 SMK 23.3gr Varget
Fellow competitor 69 TMK 24.8gr Varget
Fellow competitor 77TMK 23.1gr Varget
Fellow competitor 77TMK 22.4gr Varget
All loads will clean 300yd f class target in our ISRA f class league. M or HM midrange competitors
Good luck with your shooting.

Are you confined to a magazine length load, or are you single loading? Is your throat cut to SAAMI length, Wilde, or custom cut longer for heavy bullets?

80Smk works well out of mine.

80 Berger would work.

I think pretty much all of the heavier 22s would lend themselves well.

I still have a bunch of 80SMK's I was using in my 8 twist 22-250, and thought about trying them in my 8 twist 223 Criterion, although it's not throated for the heavies. Currently shooting 69 gr Lapua Scenar L over Varget and getting some tiny groups. How much case intrusion are you seeing with the 80SMK in your rifle?

I don’t have a picture but I’m loading the SMK in a 223 with an OAL of 2.460. I’m using a afatermarket magazine that is built for the longer OAL.

That length puts me just off the rifling in the factory barrel.

I have the same - except its the earlier Varmint not the X version, I have used the following in it, 69 SMK/Varget shot good, needed more dev time, 77 SMK/Varget shot great at around 23.4 gr.
best ever group was just on 1in" @300m. 77 Hornady Custom Comps ( same as SMK ) but last year or two only shot the 75gr AMx / 24.0gr 4895 which also was great

77 TMK

77s are designed to get the most BC out of a mag length round, not necessarily to use a long jump. That said, they’re a compact, heavy bullet and can be very accurate and reasonably wind resistant at mid range. In a bolt gun, load them as you would any other bullet. I’m a big fan of this bullet.

Any of the 80-ish grain bullets are also good, and will give better wind resistance, although I find them a little harder to get to shoot accurately than the 77.

Wisconsin Service Rifle Team year’s back put
Hornady 75 gr. HPBT on the map ..

I still shoot them , and cheaper ..

At 300 yards on a 600 reduced Target SFP .
Out or AR’s Service and Match they worked better than 80’s ...

Good Luck
