68gr FB in a 1:8

I'm going to try some 68gr Berger FB bullets in my 1:8 6BR.

I fragmented these in my 243 three groove PacNor,that barrel blew up everything but 107SMK)

How fast can you go in a 1:8 ?

That question could only be answered with a question, like what brand bullets are you using, and how fast are you pushing them? As you must know, the BR case, in its 22BR configuration, is equal to the 22-250 in muzzle velocity, there for, with equal twist rates,,and 1/8' is not common in a 22-250) they would be the same critter.
However you are talking about the 6BR 1/8', which is normally shooting heaver, longer bullets, and thus slower.
If your fragmenting bullets, you need to slow them down. I have moved 65 to 75g bullets from my 6BR Pac-Nor 3 grove 1/8' at 3100 fps and not fragmented any bullets.
But if you want high speed, and shorter barrel life, go to a 1/12' or 14 twist.
The 1/8' is not intended for small high speed bullets.

Kent, I bought a large lot of a well known 95 gr. flat base bullet and shot about 150 of them in a 1:8' twist 6BR, no problems. I fired another 500 rounds of 105's through the barrel and tried the 95's again, now about 3000 rounds on the barrel). The same bulelts, with the same load from the same lot of powder now blew up over 50% of the time. That made no sense to me,and still doesn't) but so it goes. If you have the bullets already, try and see what happens - and let us know if it works out!

All my reloading stuff is out in an other building, so ill have to look up my loads, I have records of ever load I have made, so ill get back to you.
69g is not a standard load for me, so I dont have it on the top of my head. I like 80g Berger's FB with 30.5g of Varget, they shoot tighter for me.
Mike.

I shot some with 29gr of N135 and 8208. The groups were okay but there is some powder residue in the barrel after firing.

I'll be trying something faster - maybe Benchmark.

The least little bit of fire cracking at the throat will make some of the light weight bullets come unglued if run hard.... especially in a 8 twist, they can not stand the strain of the higher rotation along with a bad, or worn throat.....

I had real good luck with trying 60gr Seirra varmniters w/ H322 out of my setback 6br Kreiger 1:8. 31grs, 3300+fps, and sub .5. It`s a very deadly bullet...I could go faster but don`t need too. I would`nt expect BR accuracy from a 68 in a 1:8 but I bet you can make one work if your throat is`nt cooked.

Interesting info.
I have a 1 in 7.5' Kreiger 6mm BR that has been shooting 105 Bergers, 107 Sierras, etc. but I've been hankering to try some 80 grn. bullets to see how they perform. I'll post with results when I finally get to the range.
