68 gr Berger FB - 6BR with RL15?

Anyone tried this? I have RL15 and Varget on hand. I have some old loadings with N135 but am experimenting. Looking for a 100,200,300 varmint shoot load.

Hello,
I tried Varget with the Berger 68FB... admittedly the gun was optimized for the 95VLD.
30" Brux HV, 8.8T, 0.055" Freebore. 0.007" off hard jam.
I worked from 31.2 grains up to 33.7.
Best accuracy was in the 32.0-32.4 range running at 3240 and 3295 FPS respectively.
(Search around, there is a long thread on this specific bullet. Normally, Bullets.com has the best price on these, but they're sold out right now. Knowing that, I'd pick up the Barts 68FB from bulletcentral.com for only a couple pennies more per shot.)
Vertical dispersion (lack thereof) was superb.
If you have a 10 twist or faster barrel, I would recommend the 87 VLD Hunting for the 300 yard shots.
At my 200 yard range, when the wind picks up, they are VASTLY superior to the lower BC flat back bullets.
Some folks run the 87 up to 3200 FPS.
I have no experience on varmints.

Please report back on whatever you try.

Good deal, thanks Luke. I have an 8 twist Hart that shot the lights out with the 68gr loadings from another 6BR. I was using them to foul a barrel and decided I might want to revisit! Hopefully I'll have some time to shoot in the next few weeks and report back.

All my experimenting stopped when I tried N135. 6mmBR with a 13.5 twist barrel. No other powder came close except N133.

Very similar to our results. With a couple of 12 twists N135 or 8208 is THE ticket for 68's. If you're using an 8 twist on this please disregard.

Although I'm not a varget fan, it may be your best choice. And along these lines.... I like the new 4166 MUCH better than varget. Works quite well in the BR's. JME. WD

Shot 34g of varget. It was extremely accurate. 1's and 2's. Ten twist barrel ans br4 primers. If memory serves me correct ,velocity was a fair amount above 3400 fps.

I have a zero fb 6BR 13.5 twist at 24",,with the 68 Berger,,68 Barts BT and the Berger Column bullet it shoots really well with VVN 135,,8208,and Varget ,,but I think the LT32 would agg the best in long strings,,and regardless of the powder or which of those 3 bullets it shoots best between 3350 and 3400 fps,,

my best agging load in this bbl is the 64.2 gr Berger Column bullet and LT32 loaded to 3375 fps,,if 300 yards was in the course of fire I would shoot Barts BTs and VVN135,,might even shoot the Column bullets at 100 and 200 and switch to the 68 BTs at 300,,

I agree with you. My best 6br load is,30.1 LT32 at 3400 with the 64.2 Berger column bullet. I have used 2 different lots of the Berger column bullets. They both shoot the same.

Here's a set of 5 shot groups I shot yesterday at 100 with 68 grain hillbilly FB bullets LT32 at 29.1 grains and a BR4 primer from my new 6 BR

The rifle is a Remington enhanced 700, barrel Hart 14 twist .265 neck. Work done by SG&Y
Also it's for sale

My Savage Model 12 shoots the Berger 68's best using VVN133 @ 29.4 gr. 135 wasn't the best, but will work as will RL15 and Varget. But my overall best 6mmbr bullet is the Barts 68 gr Ultra FB's being pushed by VVN133.

Have been shooting 6BR for over 15 years. Started with 322 (old stuff) shot very well except was a bit temp sensitive. Went to 135, shot ok. Now shoot nothing but 8208. Not the fastest but have won a bunch of Varmint matches with it shooting the Berger 68 FB out to 400 Meters.
