62 gr ELD-VT and TAC?

Finally got around to ordering some 62 gr ELD-VT to try in my .223 Tikka Varmint. I have 8lbs of TAC to burn up. Has anyone had good luck with it?

I also have N133 and Xterminator, but I am guessing they work better with lighter bullets.

I mostly single feed, but the AICS mag has tons of room. I wouldn't be surprised if I hit the lands before I run out of mag length.

The price at Brownells is pretty good at 24.99. The price on these is all over the place. Sportsman's has them on the shelf for I think 38.99! Heck I could shoot the 6 creed at that price!

I shoot the 62 ELD-VT's out of one of my 22-204's, that's equal to a 223 Ackley in capacity, with VV-133. I'd certainly give it a go in your regular 223.

With very few shots I did find that it had to be seated close to the lands.
At 2.3" COAL it was a 6" pattern.
At 20 thou off, the first and only 4 shot group was .75 " at 100 yards.

I also shoot the 62 eld-vt's in a 22-204 1:8 with n540 @3400 fps (low node) and they like just touching the lands

I use Tac in all my ar15s, 223 loads but 55g vmax. Great powder, accuracy.

Keep it close to the lands if you can. 24.5-25.5 grs of TAC with 62 Eld vt shot well for me… work up.

What is your COL?

I requested hogdon add load data and they now have tac listed for the 62 gr ELD-VT with a max of 24.7 and a COL of 2.40.

The N133 VV data is 150 fps faster, but dang I gotta do something with all this TAC!

Made it to 25.5 with TAC yesterday and there were no pressure signs at all. Going to try loading some at 25 and see if they group.

N133 I got some minor cratering just under book max and the fast velocity to match. My N133 has been open for a year and I live in the desert. Everything I load with it has slowly gained velocity, because it is dried out. I kept going way beyond book max and didn't have any other signs except slowly more cratering. The firing pin needs bushed. It always craters early. I got up to some crazy velocity. Im going to load some at 24 gr to see if they group. The velocity is tempting, but I bet I start wrecking the brass if I load beyond book max with the velocity I was seeing.

Im loaded super long for aics mdt mags. YMMV especially with a shorter COL.
