600 yard matches at Pioneer, LA

We have shot 600 yard matches at the Prince Memorial Range in Pioneer, LA for several years. Over the years not only has the equipment gotten better, but the scores have really jumped....and that is a good thing. We shoot 4, 5-shot targets for score only and the scores to win have inched up to the 190+ range in order to have a chance to win. We use the 600 yard IBS target with ~2.4 inch 10-ring and a 190 score is not easy. For example in the last match, I shot two 50's, a 43, and a 47 (190 total) and finished in 4th place. If you want to jump in this great competition, come join us on the 3rd Saturday starting at 8:30 AM. Good shooting..James

I was not aware of other mid range matches in Louisiana. I just joined Palo Alto in Donaldsonville and will be shooting F-open and FPR there. Nice to have an alternative range to compete at.

Mr. Ardoin, you are more than welcome to visit us. We also shoot a 30-shot match at 300 yds. on the first Sat of each month...also starting at 8:30 AM. The 300 yard shoot is this SAT (May 7th) and the 600 yard match is May 21st. James

Thanks for the invite James. I am new to this so i will shoot Palo for a while until I get myself sorted out but anticipate traveling to other ranges eventually. My last passion was in motorsports and I traveled across the country and eastern Canada in that venture...I certainly am willing to range afar.

How come you guys don't host some IBS 600 yard matches?
James, I have proposed that we have grown to the point of having registered matches and the club board of directors is considering it. Thanks for asking. James PS we have a couple from TN (just west of Nashville ) who shoot several matches a year.

Keep us updated on the progress of registered matches. I just googled and it's a drive but I'll make the 7 hour trip to shoot a few. If you guys manage to agree and host IBS matches, you'll see a larger turnout for two day shoots over a single day. I'm unsure of number benches you have and how many locals you have shooting there just something to think about.

We have 20 benches and have from 20 to 40 shooters who shoot. Also, we have been shooting both factory and custom classes. James

I have a good friend in Oak Grove, not far from there. It will be about 7 hrs., but plan to come in the near future. DG

JDM sounds like your half way to IBS especially with the scores. they would compete most places they shoot IBS.should start looking into tight groups of the day . good luck with it .mike
