Registered 600 yd. match

Is a pit required for holding a registered 600 yard match? If not, what is the proper way to hold the sight-in period? We have been shooting 600 yard matches at the local range for several years, but have never held a registered match. Any information will be appreciated. James Mock

No pits are required for 600 BR shooting.

Clay targets or a metal plate/gong for the sighter periods suffice.

Oak Ridge has pits. My least favorite, unless someone else is in them. ;D

St Louis has gongs. Personally, I don't care for them, but place them ahead of pits.

Pierre has/had clay targets, my preference. Instant and accurate feed back beats the other two hands down, IMHO.

Pits are not required for Approved or Registered NRA High Power XTC, Prone or F-Class but it would make it very a long and difficult Match without pits. 300 yds. is about the norm for Reduced Target stationary Frames and are know as Walk & Paste with the only sighters being shot before the 1st Match, all other Matches are shot without sighters.

Thanks. We have gongs and have let competitors have unlimited number of firings on the gongs. I guess we can modify that and go to the 6 minute sight-in and be legal. James

Contact your sanctioning body ad get the straight scoop from those actually in charge.Alot of clubs run fast and loose with the rules depending on who is in attendance. If a big match comes up you don't want any confusion.
