600 and 1k difference

Hey guys I shoot 600 and 1k br and at 600 my dasher shoots 2.2-2.5 and I just shot my first match at 1k today and it shot terrible like in lg I agged a 12" or so. My question is it possible to shoot that well at 600 and that poor at 1k?

YEP! what bullets and what is your neck tension and what seating depth? what is your velocity, what load are you using, all components and what neck clearance on your loaded roud? sorry there are a lot of questions there but each one is an important one, I might have more so will stop at this point and wait for your reply.
Wayne.

I agree with Wayne. You want to shoot at 1k you must test there. What did your groups look like? Vertical, round, flat ?

Well the groups were round for the most part but favored vertical.

Wayne
I am running a .2704 neck with a .104 Freebore. I am shooting 105 Scenars over 31 grs of 8208 with a 205m in Lpua brass. My loaded rounds are .267 and I am running 1 thou neck tension. Oh and my seating depth is about 15 otl.

Hoier,
I will think about it for a bit and get back to you I have a few mor dr. calls to get to first LOL ( Whatever,...Derek) that was just a tad funny, seriously I am at work but I will p.m you or something a little later, you look pretty good but I believe you should be able to go up another grain to grain and a half or at least my testing in a 6brx that would be the case, also I love 205 primers but 450's might be a better choice for you, you also might start bumping up your neck tension a bit, as high as maybe .003 to even maybe .004 only change one thing at a time, I would start just a couple thou off the lands and some 450's and go from there, a .001 or .002 at a time the Scenars in my 6.5 *284 liked jammed about .012 but I hate jamming if I can help from it. your clearance looks good. your probably only running about 2900 fps with that load, do you have a chrony, try bumping the powder to get to 3000- to 3030 if possible that is usually the best accuracy node for them or at least that has been my findings but be careful that powder shows no signs of pressure then hard bolt lift so go a little at a time.

I tell you what, I switched to wolf srm primers about 2 years ago and never looked back. that is all I buy. give some of them a try if you can get your hands on some. also, I made the switch from sierra bullets to berger. I am shooting the 105 hybrids and man, are they needles. I also am jamming them in .015 (6BR with about .115 FB). running imr 4320. I tend to like the slower burning powders. I am running about .002 nk tension.

I have lots of the 205s probably enough 450s to last a season and only 100 left of the Wolfs so I would guess I don't wanna get hooked on them with there being none around.

Forget the wolf's, i had no luck with them. They shoot ok,but they will not work good as cci 450's and RL-15,ES is always single digits and groups at 1K are in the 3's or less under normal conditions. I have a lot of the wolf's i was going to use in brass when the primer pockets got loose but they are smaller than cci's ......... jim

J,

I would agree with that statement if I saw more ppl stating that, but it appears to be the other way around from what I can tell. Me personally, I will prob will not ever go back to the more expensive primers, the Wolf/Tulas are working very well for me and others.

A lot can happen from 600 to 1000 yds. What were the conditions like and how were the other guy's groups. You will have to tune your gun at 1k to get it to shoot its best. But I am thinking you may have just got caught by conditions.

My batch of Wolf srm give me on average 2 hangfires out of 100. That shot will go 1 min. high. I don't use them any more. Other lots seem to work for other guys, but we shoot aggs. One shot is all it takes.

Conditions weren't nice. Heavy mirage, winds were very switchy there were a lot of big groups on the relay.

Nick I would switch to Varget or RE15 if you have any, I don't think you will like 8208 when it gets warm.

Donovan did pretty serious testing with temperature swings and 8208 tested better then Varget did.
I shot Varget with 105 hybrid and a 450 and my gun hated something about it so I started fresh and the load I'm using now shoots great at 600.

So conditions were bad and every one shot large groups and you think its your load? Why dont you shoot some groups in a calm condition and then get back to us.

They weren't that bad and we don't have "calm" conditions at Byers. Haha
But I also know that I'm shooting well at 600 in pueblo in 20-30mph pretty consistently.

I have a lot of wolf primers and i will sell them cheap for those that like them and my last lot of Federal GM primers were blanking fire forming with 30.5 grs. of Varget and a 108 berger in the Dasher. My old ones i never had trouble, and the click bang with the Wolfs is a real pain and yes they were flat when seated in the Dasher and the 6.5x47 both....... jim

Well guys if the old lady will let me out this weekend I will give 450s a try along with seating the bullets a little longer.

Jim,
My findings exactly with the 205's after f.fing they work great in the 6brx and 107 smk's but not worth a darn for f.forming.

I would try 1K again before changing your load. Later! Frank
