600/1000 Yard Target Stands and Pit

Where do I purchase the raising type target stands/holders for 600 and 1000 yard matches? If not available for purchase does anyone have plans I could use? Also, designs on the construction of the Pit that is needed. Thanks in advance to whom ever responds with assistance.

There is a NRA range design technical standards manual. Last time I saw one it was a thick binder with a lot of fold-out pages. There will be sample designs in the manual but they deal more with options than finished plans. (e.g. how many feet of what type of dirt does a berm need.) Except on military ranges, all the target carriers I've ever seen were something designed and manufactured by the club.

How many do you plan to build?

Contact Southern Indiana Rifle and Pistol Club. They, we have expanded from a 4 to a 10 TGT carrier range. I THINK the new carriers were store bought. I had just moved back to the area after 35 yrs and help anchor.
Zip them an email and get the skinny.

I went to the local dump and found several "A" frame swing seats,
they come in various heights/widths etc.

Brought several of the main frames home, used wide nylon truck tie down webbing,
to attach the steel plates etc, to each side of the legs,
targets suspended in the center space of the "A" frame.

Drill the 2 sides that attach to the main "A" frame to accept long 1/2" bolts,
pull the bolts out and fold every thing into the bed of the pickup,
drive to intended shooting site,
attach the side legs, hang targets and go to shooting.

When finished, take the 2 bolts out and load everything into the PU for the ride home.

On my own personal range, I just fold the "A" frames own and leave them there,
until next use etc.
By using the nylon webbing, the targets will take lots of abuse as compared to chain attachment.

HTH,
Don

Harry DAVIS in Maine makes the nicest ones I have seen.

Don't know how much money and effort building pits and carriers will cost, but look into http://www.silvermountaintargets.com/. With this system you don't need pits or carriers.
