6 X 47 ????

I always flip right past this # [the 6x47]in the reloading manuals...Today I read it.. Speers book says it is nothing more than 222mag opened up to 6MM ..Duh??..it looks pretty wimpy at about 25 grains of powder w 90 gr bullet...OK So I ask who uses this lil bugger??...& am I crazy thinking my old fav..The 22-250 opened up to 6MM would be worth the effort..I've though about that variation before I went with the 6MMBR.. I like it well enough, the 6mmbr..but maybe,..Maybe the next one will be the 6MMBR with a longer case...BRX ??? or the dasher??? ..any thoughts...i'm pretty happy with the old 243..but I'm sure some of these newer improved designs could be easier on barrels & get similar performance with the 87 gr V-max 6mm bullet...mike in ct

mike, there are,2) 6 X 47s. The one you mentioned and the 6 X 47 Lapua which is based on a case similar to the .308,same case head diameter) I could be wrong but I think the 6 X 47 Lapua will have more case capacity than any of the other wildcats you mentioned. The next step up in case capacity from the 6 X 47 L would be the 6mm-284 as far as I know. I'm no BR shooter but I do own a 6 X 47 Lapua and shoot all I can. Bill

The BRX and Dasher have a lot of advocates, but I'd just go with the 6x47 Lapua because forming cases is so easy in comparison. I wouldn't even consider a 6/22-250 simply because there's no good 22-250 brass.

gunamonth, my 6 X 47 Shehane is probably somewhat different than the 6 - 6.5 X 47. The shoulders are blown forward according to Bill more so than the one you are refering to. I wish I did have a drawing of my reamer but I bought this rifle from Bill while it was in build process and did not order the reamer. I don't know if it was the same reamer that Robert Whitley sells or not. But I do know that Robert and Bill are friends. I guess I could ask Robert or Bill either one and find out for sure. Bill

EDIT: I looked at the drawings on 6mmHOT and if mine is either one of those it would be the one for the 105 gr. bullets. With my bullet seated .010 into the lands the lower portion of the bullet shank/boat tail junction is above the neck/shoulder junction just a few .001s so as to avoid a do-nut problem.

Actually there are more than that. The 6X47mm Swiss Match round is excellent.

Obtunded, I looked thru all my books and resources and I have failed to find that particular case. I find a 6.5 X 55 Swiss but that is as close as I see. Could you post that info when you get a chance? Thanks, Bill

The 6x47 Swiss match is so close to the dimensions of the 6-6.5x47 that it can be fire formed into the latter. The only difference is the Swiss Match has a large primer pocket.
