6 x 47 Lapua - 110 SMK

I have been watch this thread as I thought about a 6x47 using the 110's. I have shot them in my 6br imp. with a 7 twist barrel and the accuracy node seems to be 2914 for me and it will shoot in the mid 1's and repeat and ES is in single digits. so my question of those who are using them will the 6x47 do this at a higher node and repeat?.... jim

They shoot at about the same speed for myself and a good friend with excellent accuracy.

What is the barrel twist rate?
Did you try a higher node?

A 7” and a 7.3” a Dasher and a BRX. Both have been higher and shot quite well there but 2900ish shot the best and we’re hoping for a little more barrel life. Both have been shot mostly at 1K in F Class.

I've shot them slower around 2860 to 2880's and they shot remarkably small like low .1's.... I was hoping for a positive response I would like to see the 3000 area but I don't think they like speed. I ordered a couple more barrels to see if barrel quality will help, before I invest in a reamer....... jim

I also have a 7.5” BRA that gets sticky around 2900 with the 110 so I load that one to a node right at 2800 and it shoots in the high .1’s. I think 110’s are just slightly heavy for that case. The BRX and Dasher can push them over 3000 w RL16 in a long barrel.

I have taken it to 2960 without pressure but it did shoot but 2914 it will shoot in the mid to upper .1's nearly all the time not great but ok. I am trying to find out if anyone has had success with the 6x47 case that can honestly say it will shoot repeatable and higher velocity with the 110, not a one time fluke.
It seems to shoot smaller slower like mid 2800's and having went to 2960 and never hit a good node in almost a 100 fps. increase is the reason I question this, having tried 3 different powders and seating depths from .010 in to jumped .060 plus different primers......this is all in a 7 twist barrel.... jim

I finally got a chance to do some pressure testing with 110 grain in 6x47.
I had a very nice group at 3120 with R16. No pressure signs.

Fred, I know this load is ONLY for your barrel. but what tw. and what is in this load?
I pushed the 110's to that level in a 6 creed and toasted a barrel in no time.
The #'s on that load are great if you can sustain it.
Now using the 107's @3070 in my 6x47

It’s a 7.5 twist, 5R, 30” finished.
40.0 g RL16, Rem 7-1/5 @ .015 jump.
Same load with CCI450 had 20 FPS slower with flattened primer.
It was in low .1s.
I will be doing more granular charges on either side, then seating depth test.

Fred are you having better luck with the A tip 110 over 110 SMK?..... jim
Jim,
I have never had good experience with SMK. I’m trying to get A-tip working because I don’t have to trim/tip and it saves me over 3 hours of work per 100.

-Fred

Thanks, the 30 inch tube now makes sense.
I'm running 40.2 RL16, CCI450 and 107 smk in a 26 inch 7.5 tw @3072
I wondered how you got so much more speed while pushing a heavier bullet.

Fred, not really I had sorted 500 for testing and they were really good for a factory bullet and I would do the same with the A tips, so that is a wash. now I trimmed them to make them uniform in length and then used the pointer to uniform the tip diameter. They shot good at 2914 out of my 6Br imp. They had single digit ES. and stayed in the .1"s.... at 1000 I shot a 10 shot 6" group and shots 3 and 4 poked out the top the rest were in 4".... jim

I have no doubt you can take a handful of Bullets and shoot a group to win the relay. I have seen you shooting and the records are out there.
My last experience with Sierra was 5 years ago, maybe I give it another shot.
I went through 200 pcs of A-tip and BTG was +/- .0005, I do need to sort by OAL/weight. As for the tip, no need to do anything.
If I can’t get the A-tip repeating consistently at 1000 yards, then I will look at other 110s.

They sound like what I'm looking for, So I ordered some. If they can out shoot the 110 SMK I will get a lot more..... you can never have too many bullets LMAO...... jim
