Well I assume you are using the standard reamer that Holliger has. Are you shooting a bolt gun or an AR? Are you going to shoot the 107s-108s also or just lighter bullets. If you can, throat it so you can seat the heavy bullets out as far as possible. In an AR the 87s and 70s can take the jump from mag length.

dfry, I am waiting for my 6 WOA from John Holliger @ White Oak Armament for my AR. And I was trying to get a feel of what components to stock up on. Do you use yours for competition, hunting or just plain shootin'? What brass do you use? What is your favorite powder? Thanks in advance for any info you can share.

I use mine for competition, it will kind of depend on what you are planning to do with it and what brass you want to use.

Silver State Armory has it's small primer brass on sale right now for $42 a hundred. It has the largest capacity of Remington, Hornady, and SSA at about 35grs. of H2O. If you are shooting xcourse, there are all sorts of thinks you can do. Varget is about the standard, but H4895, N140 and N540 give goods results also RL15.

You may want to start with Varget and then play from there. It also depends if you want to shoot moly or not, I don't but many do and it is probably easier on the brass. What I am learning is back off the velocities a little and the brass will be alot happier. Here is what I have been currently shooting:

70 SMK bare, 30.2 grs. of Varget in SSA brass, BR4 or Rem. 7 1/2 primers, 87 Hornady BTHP bare, 28.1 grs. of Varget, SSA Brass BR4s or Remington 7 1/2s. 107 SMK bare, 27.8 grs. Varget, SSA Brass F210M or BR4s. You can substitute the 90 Bergers or 87 V-Max for the 87 BTHP. Also the 108 Berger for the 107 SMK but I shoot .1 grs. less with those with Varget.

With 107s and H4895 I shoot 27.2 grs. back off to at least 27 to start.

If you shoot Remington or Hornady brass, it all needs to be reduced, go to the website for more info for those cases.

You can fireform your brass in a match if you want on the short lines, it shoots just fine. In my rifle the the 70 smks and 87 BTHPs just shoot tight little groups. If you push the brass to hard, you will loose primer pockets in a few firings, back off and the brass will be happier. I'm shooting about 2730 fps with a 107 or l08 and it shoots great and is easier on the brass then trying to push it to 2750 plus. You'll still shoot 5"-10" inside a 223 80 grs. at this velocity with a 10 mph cross wind.
Once you get some basic loads, then you can start playing with powder and primers, but if you want to get up and running right away without alot of fuss just shoot the Varget and the loads I have above. Dave

dfry, I have tried several times to get onto that site and I have had no success, that's why I turned to 6mmbr. Thanks for the tip on the brass, I received my order of SSA brass from MidwayUSA today and I ordered 200 more pieces from SSA directly. I have used Nosler CC 80gr bullets in my 223's with good results, so I was thinking of trying the 105 custom comp's in the 6 WOA. I have some 70gr SMKs and 80gr Nosler BTs to start with that I used with my 6mm-223. My 6 WOA barrel is 26" with a 1:8 twist, do you think this is too fast for the lighter bullets? Have tried the 400, 450 or 6 1/2 primers in your WOA? Are there any challenges to preping the virgin brass? Do i need turn the necks, ream them or trim the length? Thanks again, Ron.

Your barrel specs are the same as mine, I shoot the 70s out of it and they shoot under 1/2" without a problem. I have driven them up to almost 3200 fps without a bullet problem. I would not use 6 1/2s in an auto, you could end up with a slam fire, they to soft for auto really. I know people who do, but Remington recommends agains it. 400s and 450s are fine, 400's with Varget and 450 with the N140. I have shot some of the 400s for short line and 450s with N550, they both work fine. Contact John, he should be able to give you the initial passord info to get on the sight, tell him you want to start working up load info etc. now. Also, I tried some of the Nosler 105s 2 weeks ago,,,,not a good experience, if you try them, I would suggest jambed to start with those.

On the brass, neck urning is really not necessary, John made the chamber so that it is a no turn neck. Some people do it anyway for the 600 yd. loads. Its up to you on that. I would not do any reaming, etc. until after the first fire forming at least, then you can decide. For xcourse shooting all that will probably not be necessary but some feel better doing it. Sometimes the SSA brass can be uneven on one side of the neck and turn lightly and reaming can help that. Size, trim to length to be safe, chamfer, debure, all the usual and put in some primers, powder and bullets and have at it. Dave

Thanks for the reminder, the 6 1/2s are for my 6X45 bolt gun. If the Nos 105s didn't work for you, then I will stick with what does works. I plan to use this project for club matches and plinking with a scope and/or aperture sights. And hopefully I will get on one of the very few 600 - 1000 yard ranges, so the gun can test my skill level.
