6 SLR vs 6 Creedmoor with H1000

Im looking to build a hot 6 next year for my next PRS gun. I am interested in running the 110 SMK's at around 3100 fps. I would like to do it with H1000 in order to squeek enough barrel life out to last a season. I have a 223 AI training rifle that will get most of my training abuse (3000+ rounds a year, hopefully) and the 6mm Match rifle will only see about 1500 rounds a year.

There are 3 cartridges that are appealing, the 6 Comp Match, 6 Creedmoor, and the 6 SLR. I really dont want to fireform on a 6mm with limited life so that puts the 6 Comp Match in the rear.

I hear that the 6 Comp Match handles H1000 no problem, that the 6 SLR has to try pretty hard to get to 3100 and that the 6 Creedmoor generally wont make velocity with H1000.

I understand the 6 comp match has the volume advantage, but the 6 SLR and 6 Creed more are almost identical in volume to eachother.

Why does the 6 SLR make more speed (allegedly) with the H1000 than the 6 Creed when the capacities are almost identical?

The 6 Creed is attractive because you can run good brass without fireforming. The 6 SLR has to run the winchester or remington brass in order to form correctly without a donut.

Comments, ideas, and critiques are welcome. How do you like the 6 SLR if you run one? And what kind of speeds are you getting out of H1000?

also consider h100v and n165 as there both cooler burning then h1000 supposedly, the slr should have a slight velocity advantage over the creed without getting into high pressure loads. if i could find any of the 110 smks around here i would of already tried them in my slr, loading up some ladder tests for my 27" 7.5 krieger slr for the berger 115 vldh, trying n165, r26, h100v, h1000 , im just hoping for near 3000 fps thats accurate for a hunting load but if im not seeing pressure ill keep shooting up towards the hot end on my ladder and let you know.

Both Midway and Precision Reloading have these bullets in stock currently. There are a couple of unsubstantiated reports that the BC is close but a tad high. I suspicion that these come with a small sprinkling if fairy dust from the factory...;)

As stated, H100V, VVN-160 and VVN-165 work in this the 6mm Creedmoor case for the heavier 107/108 class bullets. I have used 100V for the last few years in the 6mm and 6.5mm Creedmoor with good results. H-1000 is a mismatch for the 6mm Creedmoor. You can also try and I suggest, Re-23 and Re-16 as maybe the best combination, depending on the loaded length you choose. Both perform with the heavier 6mm bullets and do not show the wear on the throat that some of the hotter powders do after a season of shooting because you're running them at a lower pressure.

Enjoy!

N-160 is advertised as cooler than a lot of powders but for me, not so good barrel life. H-1000 and N-165 seem to stretch it more.

I have a lb of HV-100 but haven't tried it yet. Thinking I will relegate it to the back of the shelf for a while. I just put a new barrel on and hate to waste any life if it's not so good.

I found H1000 too slow for the 107SMK in my 6SLR. I was compressing the loads before I hit 3000 FPS.

My shooting partner uses RL-26 in the SLR and is getting a whole lot of speed out of it. A little more load development and it if it comes together he will be at 3300+ with 107's i think.

I've shot about 800 110SMK's over the last year. No fairy dust on this bullet, if anything the advertised BC is slightly conservative. It's one slippery 6mm bullet.

Pertaining to what swd posted, and if my memory serves me correctly dmoran has tested the 110 smk and the Nosler RDF 105. His findings mimic what swd posted about bc. Do a search and read the information that Donovan posted from his testing.

Getting 3,110 fps out of the 6 Comp Match with Reloader 26 and the 110's. Still room in the case and no pressure. I stopped here since it shot good.

I got a used up 6mm barrel from a buddy and had it chambered in 6 Comp Match at the same time I did a new barrel so I'd have one for fire forming. Did 500 pieces this way and used up some left over Retumbo and then put on the new barrel and went to work.

back to the OP original ? at the end of his post, I love my SLR, very accurate, very load tolerant- seems to shot everything tight, easy brass -economical brass and ez brass prep, velocities equal or beyond std 243 depending on throating ez to achieve, improved barrel life over 243. I personally dont like to run with the in crowd, seems everyone has a creed or 6/6.5x47 , I wanted something different yet equal or better performance to state my individualism. and the SLR does it in spades for me.

swd,

Note the use of an emoji at the end of the statement. It was meant as a humorous observation not something to be taken seriously. Unknot panties.

Regards.
