6 mm Remington rifle

Will Remington arms put the 6 mm Remington rifle back in production I hope so I would buy one if they did .
I shot a 6mm Rem for 35 years at gh. They are a real barrel burner. If Rem had any smarts they would offer the Rem 700 in 6BR, 6BRX or Dasher. I don't know if it's hard to find brass. I have two Rem 700. I put a Krieger 6BR barrel on one and a 6BRX on the other. The 6mm Rem is just average for accuracy. I got the 6BR and 6BRX because they are known to be very accurate and easy to find a good load.

Ok thanks guys I just like the idea of the 6 mm Remington . I have a 243 and like it don’t get me wrong but to me the 6 mm Remington is better.
I would like to have another 6mm Remington. I had one, sold it, now I am without one.

I have always liked the 6mm Remington cartridge. My first rifle was Rem 788 and my second was a Browning B-78 single shot. Both were accurate, the B-78 has a longer barrel which was suited to using for hunting Coues deer before I switched to the .240 Weatherby.

My favorite though is the GAP wildcat 6mm Crusader, often discussed by member https://forum.accurateshooter.com/members/kombayotch.1051729/

It can best be described as an 'improved' 6mm Rem. with the case blown out and the shoulder improved to 32 degrees.

But times have changed and we find ourselves with several new case designs trending towards the smaller size and case capacity. I'm currently using the 6GT case for the 6mm as well as the .25 and .22 caliber versions.

I will always have a 6mm Rem. but that won't deter me from trying out many of the new cases.

Very sound advice. Thanks

My 6mm Remington was also a 788.

I’m about to turn a Tikka T3 in 6BR into a 6GT as the round just feeds better in a repeater though I do have dedicated staggered/single feed AICS magazines for it as it is in an MDT stock. This is my “Dog Gun” and the Eliseo R5 remains my F open 6BR to 600 & 7PRCW for longer distances.
Saying all that, someone at my range is campaigning a 6GT and with only 40rds on a new barrel turned a 200.14 at 700yds… Sierra 110’s

same stock? mods? heavier barrel maybe?

No mods to the action. It feeds the Ackley perfectly from the '06 BDL configuration. The barrel i ordered was a bit heavier than the factory sporter contour.
BTW, this is a 1981 700 walnut stock with the brass cross pin. I feel lucky to have found one.

The VLD Hunting had less velocity and pressure with the same powder charge as the Hybrid, both seated .015 off. Maybe because of the jacket thickness.20251003_191144.jpg

I've had 2 700 Rem. in 6 Rem. both on long action 700's. No mag length problems ever with the long actions. 90 grn. Scirocco's are my favorite bullet. I like the 100 btsp Hornady also. I've had several 6 Rem. Imp bench guns and still have 1. With them all I've used H4831, H4831SC. I currently still have a 700 stainless in 6 Rem. on a long action that I still deer hunt with.
I also have had for years a Ruger #1 (1978) in 6 Remington that also likes H4831 not SC and 90 grn. Scirocco's. The 8 lb. jug of H4831 (not SC) has a price tag of $149.95. I've had it for quite a while.

I love the 6 Remington. I'm getting long in the tooth, and don't see any reason to add any new calibers to my collection. I have enough 6 Remington brass to last me the rest of my life.

Mr. Beach in the post above says to make an offer on the 660 he's got. I'm sure he will not lead you wrong.
The only way to get a new 6 Rem. would be to buy a new or used 700 and have someone re-barrel it for you.

Good luck, Waverly
Yes....4831, either version with magnum primers.

That looks great! those old 700s had character in addition to being very good rifles.

I have 4 bags of Remington brass for the hunting rifles, and a fair amount of 6.5x57, and 7x57 RWS for the improved 6. I love the RWS brass. You would have to work hard to mess up a RWS case head.
