6 mm ppc

givin a 24 inch barrel ,1/14 twist how fast could i drive a 65 gr bt bullet out of it and keep preasures to say 60,000 psi.am i lookig at 3300 fps or 3400 fps area?shooting the brass3 to4 times is alright for a lifespan.
gary.

please send me your brass after the fourth firing. Heck i shoot mine 2 times before i consider it formed. If your shooting lapua brass sir, it will be good upwards of 12 times+ Sounds like you need to do some reading on this cartridge. Good luck! Lee

I agree w Lee.

With the right sized die set up correctly, a strong action, and hot loads, 20+ reloads should be expected.

With my original 6ppc, chambered in 1998, started out with 120 new Lapua 22 Russian, outside neck turned them to .085" for my .262" chamber neck. After documented 2410 rounds fired thru the Shilen barrel, the barrel developed firecracking for approx. 3" in front of the chamber mouth with the occassional unexplained wild shot, and heavier copper fouling. Barrel was set-back & re-chambered with a .272" chamber neck. The original 120 Lapua cases have between 30 and 32 times reloaded on them, primer pockets are still tight, and they could be re-loaded and used ???? times. Never annealed a case neck in my life. So, the Lapua brass outlived the barrel! With my 6BR chamberings, some of that brass has 30 to 32 loadings and it too is still in perfect condition/ also never annealed.

maddysdad, Shouldn't be a problem with a 24" barrel, Quick load projects 3308 fps with a load of 29.1 Gr's of N-133 operating a a pressure of 56818psi. JJ says he is getting those velocities from a 21" barrel, if that's his actual chrono data, you should do even better. Remember Quick Load is only an estimation but it's generally in the ball park. As stated the Lapua Brass is tough as nails and will last a long time.

As for brass life, if your barrel is chambered properly and you are running safe loads that are not beyond the pressure capacity of the round or the action, you should be able to get at least 8 to 10 reloads out of most any round going and usually a good bit more than that with a tight chamber, good brass, and loads within reason. If you are getting 3 to 4 reloads out of anything and junking brass, something needs attention and fast. You would either be beyond safe limits of the cartridge, have a loose chamber or some other issue that needs to be addressed. Anything that junks brass that fast doesn't even seem safe to me.

Pushing the limits of safe operating pressure to a point of ruining brass is never a good idea and can end with catastrophic results. All it will take is one bad piece of brass, or even higher than normal temperature or other variable that increases pressure, and your rifle will turn into a hand grenade.

After seeing the results of running the top edge of the pressure spectrum, and seeing it nearly change a friends life and mine as well, I like to keep pressure a bit below max to have buffer room should anything go wrong.

Thanks JJ, I assumed it was. I have a 21" McClennen barreled 22PPC and I get 3416 from a 55Gr. Nosler Bt, with a light load of N-133 and 3853 with a 40Gr Nosler BT. Went on a South Dakota PD hunt last year and couldn't believe how many 600yd plus kills were made with the 6 and 22 PPC. Great little rounds.
