6 Inch Mitutoyo Caliper Getting Sluggish

I have a Mitutoyo caliper that is getting sluggish to open. Not smooth as it was. I cleaned out the visible track gear but do not want to use any oil. Even Hobo. Any suggestions to clean it? Flush with lighter fluid? Anything else?

Try to contact the calibration service in your town. There is one, just often they are used to working with established clients like factories so it may take a minute to get them to understand a walk in.

Ask them for both calibration and service. They should be able to clean it, and then adjust it to measure right as well. Even the good ones drift, especially if they've gotten gunked up.

I use a rag and rubbing alcohol to clean mine. Well I use 100%ipa but same thing with no water. The calibration is very recommended.

Try a very fine steel wool on the edges. Mine now operate smoother than they have operated in years. Some light oil helps.
