6 GT with light bullets

Do any of you guys have any positive experience with the 6 GT using bullets in the 70 to 90 Gr. weight. I am interested in using the 70 Gr. Nosler BT and or the 80 Gr. Nosler BT or the 80 Gr. Berger. Thx for and real life experience....

I shoot 88 grain Berger's out of mine (1-9 Krieger). Grey Fox to Mule Deer. Taken it out to 725 on steel. No complaints. That bullet doesn't like much wind though. I have a boat load of 70 grain Noslers but I haven't done anything with them yet.

Thanks for your experience...I have had a lot of very good experiences with the 70 GR. Noslers. From Ground Hogs in the .243 AI and the 6 BR . From varmints to larger animals. Very impressed with the performance of that bullet when it reaches its final destination. Think I'm going to start with Varget and go from there. G Love, what powder were you using with the 88 Gr Bergers ???

Varget. 35.8 grains at 3100. It's not hot. I'm going to try N-140 next. If I was to try the 70's, I would use Varget, maybe H4895.

Hodgdon is showing 39.9 Grs. of Varget as a maximum load for the 70 Gr Sierra BK with Alpha Brass . So, Using the 70 Gr Nosler BT , that gives me something to work with..

My Son shot a Coues buck, prolly 100lb, right in the chest with a 70 out of a 243 at 3400. Shot was 230 yards and the bullet blew up on impact not even entering the ribcage. Wasn't a fan of using them for deer before the hunt but they just shot soooo well I figures with the precise bullet placement it would work out. I was wrong. Took several shots and what a mess. May work okay with reduced muzzle velocity. Good luck my friend!

Coues,
Thank you for your experience with the 70 Gr. Nosler BT. I have killed over a hundred Groundhogs with the 70 Gr Nosler BT using a ,243 Ackley around 3700 fps, several Coyotes and Bobcats with a 6BRA with the same bullet around 3200 fps and a handful of larger game animals with the 70 Gr.Nosler BT and I have never had one blowup on impact. I'm using a 12" twist In the .243 AI and a 10" twist in the 6 BRA. I can only guess (twist rate, rough inside barrel etc) what may have caused the problem that you experienced. I appreciate you sharing that experience and I can understand the frustration you must have had. Thanks again for your reply..
