6 GT as a Varmint Cartridge

I'm interested in the 6 GT as an all round varmint cartridge and last year I put together one on a Defiance Action, screwed a #4 Brux barrel on it with a 9" twist and cut it off at 22". I have had over 25 years experience with the 70 Gr Nosler BT in various cartridges (6BR, .243, 6BRA, etc) and really like that bullet a lot. I'm getting, on average, 3546 fps with the 70 Gr NBT using IMR 8208 XBR and very good accuracy with a can . That is not a maximum load and the Alpha Brass seems to be holding up well. I was hoping some of you guys might have some experience with this cartridge on varmints and could share some of your loads-experiences. Coyotes, Bobcats, Groundhogs etc.

I have been using the 6x47 for quite some time. I have played with several 6mm's. (240 Roy, 6-284, 6mm, 6mm Ackley, 243 WSSM, 243, 243 Ackley, 6br, 6 dasher). It's my favorite by a large margin. Pretty close to 243 velocity with tough excellent Lapua brass and the small primer pocket. Very efficient case and I prefer the case design to the GT. Of the 6mm's I've used on predators and varmints it's performed better than the 6br and much like a 243. That is to say very good performance! I shoot mostly 87 Vmax for varmints but performance with 70 grain bullets has been good.

The 105 Amax has also worked well out to 700 yards on prairie dogs and 1000 yard steel.

I have no interest in the GT.

Myself and most everyone I know uses a 6 or 22 GT with an 80ish grain bullet on everything in TX. We’ve shot 80,87,88,90,105 and 108. It’s a fine little cartridge that has velocity close to a 6x47 and accuracy close to a 6BR.

I look forward to my Lapua brass getting here. The alpha is decent and very tough, but it’s certainly not blue box quality.

Should be a good one. I sling the 108eldm at prairie dogs with 6 creed. Thinking of trying the 80 gr eld-vt. The smaller 6s IMHO sound better. Less noise, less recoil, less heat, less powder, more barrel life. I don't think the velocity of the creed is worth the tradeoffs.

I hunt with a 6x47 L. Everything said above spot on.

I'm sure a nosler ballistic tip at 3500 fps would take care of any varmint.
