I'm looking for a load for my daughter's rifle that will enable her to practice at short ranges but still have to dial her scope at distances under 300 yards. I have a boxes of 87 grain Vmax's I want to use instead of her normal 105 MatchBuners. I was thinking of keeping the bullet speed slow under 2800 fps but I couldn't find any load data for what I want. I use Varget powder but I don't know if it will be safe to load the 87 grain under 2800 fps.
I've read it's dangerous to load your brass case low on powder because the un-burnt powders will block the chamber and cause high pressures. Not sure if this it true but I usually never found anything accurate under the minimum charge.
Will Varget be good enough to slow the bullet lets say 2500 fps or do I need a slower burn rate? Years ago I did miss around with Trail Boss in a 223 but I didn't like how the powder made everything very dirty.
I did think about having her practice with her airgun and have thought about putting together another .223 but I want her to use the gun she has now and not confuse her with a different rifle.
