6 Grendel and Varget

I have had excellent luck with my 6 AR/6 Grendel using Vhit N540 but I wanted to try Varget. With no data out there, I used RL-15 data as a baseline with the Berger 105 Hybrid. I decided to start at 26.5 gns and go up from there in 0.3 incriments. Loaded OAL was just inside max mag length using pointed 105s.

I started to get some pressure around 28.5 gns. The 27.9 load showed promise so I loaded up 30 rounds and headed back to the range to see how it did at 600 yards.

18x36 chunk of steel.

That is 5 shots inside about 2 inches.

Looks like my gas gun has a new load.

Out of curiosity, what is the make up of the rifle? I've been working with the 6.5 Grendel for quite a while and always looking for another excuse to throw money at a new toy. I am very familiar with Robert Whitley's website......

Just think what woulda happen if he was shooting at a much smaller target... ;)
He would of still missed it by about a foot to the left....:)
Nice group though.

Very interesting...

What OAL did you load those 105 hybrids 2.250"?

Varget has been on my list to try, just haven't had time.

What length barrel? I've noticed my 26" barrel turns my brass into belted magnum cases with loads that most other guns like.

2.260

The load trued out to be 2635 fps from a 22 inch barrel and Thunderbeast 7 inch suppressor. 3.9 mils of elevation to hit at 610 yards with a 100 yard zero.

I will post some pictures up later this weekend.

In a nutshell it is a 22 inch Lilja barrel, Geissele NM trigger, PRI float tube, Spuhr mount/Schmidt and Bender 3-20 scope, built by Spook. A hot pink Magpul grip brings it all together.

That is pretty decent. I knew it would be slow, but 2630 might be acceptable.

I will try it from my 22" Bartlein and see what happens.

Thanks Hoser!

Nice group though.

Well it was windy out... About 10-12 mph.
My point was aiming at a 1" dot is more precise to aim at as you have a better point of aim then a 8" painted circle dot.
I highly doubt at 600 yrds you held exact same spot of center.... Good shooting but as the saying goes " aim small hit small"
;)
