6 Dasher with CFE223 Powder/105 Hybrid

I know the holy grail of powder is Varget or RL15 but I want to try some of the newer stuff. Anyone had good luck with 105 Hybrid or 107 SMK and CFE223 powder. I looked around byt couldn't find a thread already open on the subject.

I pulled it up on OL using my load settings. The burn curve looked great speed was fast but the case fill was only 90%. More then likely it would be good for lite bullets. Larry

I use IMR 8208 in my 6BR loads with the 107 SMK and get great results. I am just having a hard time getting the Dasher load tuned. I found a Dasher load for CFE223 in the Berger manual and will work from there. I'll come back and let everyone know how it went.

I loaded a few at 31 grains and a few at 31.5 grains of CFE223 and the 105 Hybrid. Does QL look OK pressure wise there? My OAL at the ogive is 1.80" so COAL is just under 2.6".

Forum Boss: You can't use other people's QL conclusions without knowing your case's TRUE case capacity and adjusting the weighting factor and temp. I don't want you assuming other people can tell you about pressure.

I'm just finishing up a Savage 6BR build with an 8 twist barrel. CFE223 is my go to powder for my 204 Ruger and I was thinking about trying it in the 6BR with 107 gr Sierra MatchKings, but as someone else mentioned the fill rate is not ideal for heavy bullets. Then my son some how managed to come up with 2 pounds of Varget. Guess which one I'm gonna use.

I used Hodgdon CFE 223 when I was fireforming my last batch of 6 Dasher cases with 107SMK's. Seemed to shoot just as well as Varget or RL15. I have not, however, used it in regular 6 Dasher loads yet. From what I saw in my FF loads, I'll probably start at 30.0 grns and work up, with the 105-108 class bullets. The powder has been working well for me in my AR service rifle, and I have used it in .308 bolt and gas loads as well.

Who makes CFE223 powder? I find no reference to it the Berger load manual for the Dasher.

Gary.

Hodgdon.
It is a fairly new powder. While I have to say that the Berger manual is one of the most interesting and informative I have ever used (and I have used a lot of them) it is not all inclusive. There are a couple of newer powder on the market that didn't get any testing.

Still no good answers to the question that I am reading
Wow!
I started this thread NINE YEARS ago. You'd think I would have satisfied my curiosity by now.
Oh well, I've managed to have Varget on hand all this time and fortunate to have some good shooting barrels (which one may argue I've wasted).
I did try Alliant 2000MR around 2016 in the Dasher and it actually was pretty good. Just way to temperamental to be a "go-to".

I use equal charges of cfe223 and 2000mr in .223, they are about the same, look the same.
I never had the need to test cfe223 in my dasher because 2000mr is perfect for shooting small groups, but if I had to load cfe223 I'd use the same charge 33-34 with 105-115 bullets

Few weeks ago I tried CFE223 and Tac.
Both shot groups that were acceptable to me for accuracy. I am not a bench guy. Not quite as accurate as Varget but very close.
Velocity the CFE223 was 120fps slower than the Varget and Tac loads. Perhaps more powder would have gotten that up but this was more of a curiosity for me.
