6 Dasher to 6 Creedmoor

Job is done and the chamber looks great. Tenon stayed intact and brass goes in real nice.
I am going to load a few rounds over the weekend and shoot it some next week.

Keep your Dasher

JMO

If I didn't post this already let me say that I really like shooting Dasher and have three barrels in that cartridge already. This is experimentation and I used my oldest Dasher barrel to do it.
Also, a very nice Bartlien 5R HV contour with 7.5 twist arrived at my door yesterday so it's all good.

Update:
At the range I saw pressure signs after about five rounds with my usual 42 gr H4350 & 105 Hybrids. I know from another rifle in same caliber that there was another decent node at 40 grains so I went back and loaded some of those. Another range trip, another failure. I cleaned with C4 & finished with JB Bore Brite. What I saw was some cracking in the leade and a rough throat and barrel just ahead of the new chamber. At this point I might have just canned the barrel but I am stubborn. We cut of 1.5", bringing the total length to 27", rechambered to 6 Creedmoor and it was back to the range. I fired both 40 & 42 grain loads without any pressure signs (the obvious ones from before) and groups at 520 yards came in around 2 to 2 1/2".
I am going to shoot it at the next club match just to see how it goes. BTW, velocity numbers look like right at 3200 with the 42 gr load and 3100 with the 40 grain load. I had to come down 4 MOA from my 6 Dasher zero to be at my zero at 520.

Funny, I went the other direction and swapped my 6 Creedmoor barrel out for a Dasher. The Creed started shooting like a scatter gun after about a 1000 rounds. It shot really good before that, but it went really quick. Load was 43.8 of RL19 with 105 Hybrids. The Dasher was a 6 BR in a 5R barrel that fouled really bad, will have to see if the Dasher does the same - but for now it has been a LOT of fun to shot.

How many reloads are you getting on your 6mm Creedmoor cases?
Thanks in advance for the info!
I have some 6CM brass with 6 loads on it and primer pockets are still in great shape. I do my own annealing and keep shoulder bump to a minimum. I have been shooting 6.5CM a long time now and have had brass there last as long as 12 firings. I really don't expect much different from the 6CM.

Did you cut the tenon off on the BR or just run the Dasher reamer in?
I am not giving up the 6 Dasher and have two other barrels so chambered. This is just an experiment to see what it would do against Dashers at 1000 yards. I've shot the 6CM to 1,000 quite a bit. It's fast and the Hybrids really fly true.

I already have a 6CM and a reamer. I do not consider it a "downgrade" as my 26" 6CM barrel can (but I usually don't) launch 105 Hybrids at 3200 FPS. I have proven it a solid performer all the way to 1000 yards with a 6.6 mil elevation change from 10 yards. Plus (big consideration) I already have brass and dies for the 6CM.
Now, to the last part of your reply, the taper is why I was wondering if it would just clean up or threads would need redone.
This is just an "inquiring minds want to know" kind of project. Managing to keep the barrel at current 28" will be key to the project's execution.
Totally agree with the first part of your paragraph.

I'll be testing some CM brass today that has 9 firings, others have 7&8 firings, still good.

Sorry, been out with back surgery. All we did was run the Dasher reamer in and it has been shooting really well. Bartlein 5R barrel that developed a carbon ring really bad as a 6BR, and it seems to be doing the same as a Dasher, but darn if it does not shoot well. Just have to scrub it quite a bit after a match.

I'm shooting this barrel at our next local match to see how it does. 42 grains H4350 with 105 Hybrid has worked well in everything else 6 CM so hoping it works with this barrel too.

Update on this project. It appears this has some promise. My four targets at 520 yards were shot without benefit of wind flags. One target had four shots in .746" with one opening the group to 2.1". Another came in at 2.7" and two, well, I just missed the wind. They were in the mid 3" range. At well over 3100 FPS with the 105 Hybrid, I thing it could be a good 1000 yard run. I've shot my other 6CM out to 1250 yards. Dialed in 10.5 mils elevation and it kept 10 rounds inside 10" off a bipod. BTW, that sorry Hornady brass is holding up well too.

Yup, I have 10 firings on one set of 100 and 9 on another, neck thickness is very good from one end of the neck to the other, avg thickness about .0143". Pockets are almost like new.
