6 Dasher & the 115 DTAC ??

What do y'all think about the 6 Dasher with a 1 x 7 1/2" barrel and the 115 DTAC bullet? Does the Dasher have enough jam for the heavier 115 DTAC, even with a 1 x 7 1/2" barrel or should I just stay with the 105's?

Thanks, Jay

Hi i wondered the same with thw 115gr and the dasher but with a 1 in 8 twist the majority of shooters that tried the 115gr in a br or br improved found that the wind drift at 1000 comparing the 115gr and the 107gr was about the same as you can push the 115gr a lot faster. Most have gone back for the 105-107gr range because of the better accuracy with the variety of projectiles available. The 115gr was DTAC was designed for across the Course shooting so it had to shoot in the X ring every shot. It was not specificaly designed for the BR cases or BR Shooting you realy need a case like the XC to get the 115gr to 3000 fps with reasonable pressure. My advice would be to get an 8 twist and shoot any of the 105-107gr projectiles in Whatever shoots best remember there are custom bullets available Like Clinch River aswell in this range.

Bill - My question was really to see if anyone else had done any experimenting with the 6 Dasher & the 115 DTAC. I have and here are my results -,5089 ft, 11.2C, 12.2% Hum, 29.13 BP) Rifle = Stolle Kodiak SS, Jewell trigger, 30 1/2" 1x8" Krieger HV, Leupold LR 6.5-20x50mm and a Rieben laminated prone stock. Using RL-15, Lapua brass and BR-4 primers I got 3020 fps with a mollied 115 DTAC and 3140 fps with a 107 mollied Sierra MK. Accuracy was excellent at all ranges, 300m to 800m, with either bullet but the 107 showed its superiority at 900m. I beleive the 115 DTAC was not being stabilized enough by the 1x8" twist, like Dave Tubb said would happen. A friend has a 6-250 with a 1x8" barrel and he is experiencing the same thing. I think at the end of the day I'm going to have to get my own 1 x 7 1/2" barrel to see if the 6 Dasher can handle the 115 DTAC at 900m.

JR,

Do a search of the 6BR forum for "UBL DTAC" and "Dasher DTAC". You'll find a number of previous threads. Flatlander has done some extensive testing, and he concluded you lose 70-100 fps vs. a 105gr bullet so there isn't much ballistic advantage for the longer bullet in a 6mmBR improved case.

But, as more people play with different powders, it's possible that we may learn something new.

You'll find the seach link at the right corner of the message board, above the first article, just to the left of "NEW POSTS"

Jay, I gave up on shooting the DTAC 115s in my 8-twist 30" Krieger chambered for the Dasher with a .274" neck. Tried N550 & N150 - got lousy accuracy at 600 with N550 with a top velocity of 2984fps. Accuracy was quite a bit better with N150, but still not up to the standard Lapua 105s set, and velocity was down to 2950fps. I can push a Lapua 105 to 3080fps with N150, and get extreme spreads of around 6fps, with excellent accuracy. Sierra's Infinity ballistics program shows the same wind drift for the two bullets all the way out to 1000yds. with these velocities, so I sold the rest of my 115s to a friend with a Dasher in a 7.5 twist bbl. He and another friend, with another Krieger 8-twist) have had very good results out to 1000 with N550/DTAC 115s, so I've concluded that it's a situation where my individual barrel just doesn't like the 115s.

My experience, and one of my shooting buddies, is that we only lose about 5o fps when swithching from the 107 to the 115. It takes only 1/2 grain of H4350 to bring the velocity back up to 107 levels. Several of us have tested the DTAC in an 8 twist all the way down to sea level,Sacramento)and they are stabilized. Henry Childs has tested them and thinks the 8 twist is enough. Check your twist carefully. Some shooters who have had stability problems have found that their barrels are more than 8 twist. Donovan, everybody I know seats the DTAC to jam or at least touch. Now, having said all that, several shooters have had bad batches of DTACs. They need to be sorted, for sure. I gave up on them after some bad experiences but am back to using them.
