6 dasher reamer suggestions

Using a Krieger 1:7 twist 31" chambered in a dasher, I'm thinking about using the Berger 105 or 115 bullets. My questions are... Should I go with a tight neck and turn which I don't mind doing? Should I go with the new Norma brass reamer or the regular old school and just fire form the brass because I've heard lots of horror stories about the issues on the new Norma brass And last but not least, what free bore works the best for the 105 and 115s.

Thanks
Darrin

I'm sure you will find gobs of info on this subject. With that being said my reamer is set up with a .271 neck. I see allot of guys are using a .2705. I had my freebore set at .130. Works fine for me using the 105's.

I would do at least a .135 free bore. If you want to do a full cleanup of Lapua I would do a .267 neck. Maybe a .268 would clean up, not sure. The idea of the longer neck on a Dasher would help but from all my buddies testing the Norma did not hold up to pressure and couldn't get as much velocity. Matt

PT&G built my Dasher reamer for Lapua Blue Box brass, no turn, .2704 neck and .123 Freebore. I only shoot heavies 105-108, Berger, Nosler or Sierra's, no problem at all. Usually jump them ~ .025, started at .010 off, went to .025 and the groups got very small. :)

What are you doing with this rifle? If your not going to shoot BR with it Norma brass
is great. You can run 105-107 @ 2950-3000 with .125+ freebore. A word of warning
New Lapua Blue box necks can load at as much as .269. You do the math.

LloydX2 ..... Yes this will be used for BR matches mid and long ranges only.
Thank you all for your input, it is very helpful. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with fire forming Lapua BR brass.

Thanks again
Darrin

I've been waiting on you to reply, what took so long? Lol...

Larry I've been reading what Kiff wrote, he said a 123 freebore was perfect for a 105 but everyone is talking larger... Kind of what you are saying.
Every gun I have the more I shoot it the longer the free bore gets
123 FB Is correct it Keeps the bullet foward of the donut problem . I jump mine to start So I chose a 135 fb Larry

The only reason I didn't replying was lack of time .
Building two race cars Two motors And they gave us the cam shafts Specifications and the RPM limit Tuesday the sent notice they were takeing 300 rpm away . Back to the drawing board . Dyno test showed the power range was wrong with The RPM change . Other than that everything is cool .
Merry Christmas to you and your family .

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family also Larry. If you get a chance later msg me your phone number, I'd like to twist your brain a little more about this new chamber I'm doing.

Thanks
Darrin

Well aware of that . Back then we could say Merry Christmas is that nice again .Larry
You're darn tooting. MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone!
I owned a pawnshop a few years ago and told all of my employees to tell everyone Merry Christmas and if they seem offended, just straight out tell them we really don't need them in our store. It shocked a few people but we got our point across.

I'm new at this but below are a few threads that helped me spec a reamer. Attached is a copy of what I have on order. After reading the comments on Norma brass I decided to stick with Lapua and plan to take a minimal clean up of the necks. Something I picked up from the other threads was keeping the case length shorter to avoid the carbon ring in the neck. I went with 1.555" but saw some up to 1.570". I believe this is about the minimum that will allow chambering the 6 BR case for fire forming. This dimension may also affect the free bore you select.

Can anyone comment on the free bore needed for the new 110 SMKs?

Rich

I have found that hybrids like to be jumped .020 plus . With .123 being perfect With no jump . 133 would let you seat the bullet .010 in to start . If the throat move .001 per hundred . It would take 2000 round to get to the best FB with . 105
Merry Christmas Larry
