6 Dasher Info (link)

Bolt Gun Bodacious
I'm liking what I'm reading about 6 Dasher, and thinking about a build, and came across this link, which I thunk was good.

If you see anything squirrely, pls let me know....

This link also has links to other 6mm cartridges. So I thought it might help some,.

Thanx for verifying the data, I'm really leaning 6 Daher, but I got alot to learn.... like availability of brass, esp.

Since that article, Alpha has produced 6 Dasher brass and it is good stuff. Fits a chamber designed for Lapua formed brass good as well.

Another question is about case neck length compared to other 6mm....does Dasher have enuf neck length to dial in freebore (maybe the better term is "jump") , or is that just a function of the reamer chosen, and its a discussion to have with the builder?

Any other reloading oddities to 6mm Dasher?

Yes, you have to tell the builder what you are leaning toward in terms of how you will use the rig and what bullets you want it to favor. While a 6 Dasher isn't as universal as a 30-06 in terms of the variety of bullet weights, it still offers everything from light varmint bullets to heavy for caliber ones out in the 115 range.

The smith would have no way to know, so I doubt they would take the work without that discussion anyway.

You will still have to discuss your likes and dislikes about reamer details like the ones you mentioned, like twist preference, profile, etc. so in that discussion they will probably quiz you on the rest anyway.

What’s the goal of this build? Good chance a 6br would do everything you need and be a lot easier.

F-class competition, mostly. A range toy. Something larger than my 224 Valkyrie bolt gun (a 0.35 moa gun) 600 - 1000 yd gun (no further) Supreme accuracy. To build something new. :) Dasher *looks* to have more case capacity, which can either fit more powder (muzle velocity) , or allow for more seating depth. (I could be wrong about that)

My thinking *for* Dasher is not *against* 6BR. Tho I tend to go a legit but different route than the crowd. That's how I ended up with a 224V bolt gun when everyone else was building Valkyrie gas guns. From match results I see, most everyone goes 6BR. Tho I see a few Dashers in the top 10.

Please describe "alot easier." I like "easier." :)

This is a Brass Answer ! BR and Dasher Brass are for sale ready to use. No Fire Forming , cost about equal .
Norma Makes the Norma Dasher Brass .050 longer Neck still uses Standard Dasher Dies.
You will not be unhappy with either ? If you are thinking of 800 to 1000 yard Range ? The Dasher may have the edge ?

If you are concerned about neck length, the Norma brass is for you. Just have to make sure you purchase Norma brass from the 2nd factory offering. The first batch had some case rims that were thicker than standard, necessitating different shell holders. Also, you need to use a dasher reamer designed for the longer necked Norma brass. The longer necked Norma dasher brass can be trimmed to use in Lapua dashers. I use Reloader 15 with the 105 grain bullets. H335 works pretty well if you want to shoot 55 grainers.

Graf has the Peterson 6 Dasher brass in stock https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/85617

The Norma brass is out of stock but you can setup an account or log into your present account and they will notify you when it comes in. https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/77530

Coupla 6Dashers showed up at the 700yd range Saturday. Nice guns, built by an Hunts Long Range:

Nice guns.

Most interesting were the AICS 308 mags modded to 6Dasher:

Do these require annealing, fire forming, or any noin-standard brass prep?

Thx.

Biggest immed question....

What receiver action recommended? I'm assuming Rem 700 (pattern( SA, like a Bighorn?

Other?

Nothing other than standard brass prep required so long as your chamber was cut with the Norma Dasher reamer. It's Dasher brass, so no fire forming. To use it in a Lapua Dasher cut chamber you have to shorten the neck.

Graf's has Peterson Dasher brass in stock which I believe is based off Lapua dimensions. I'm not sure anyone is importing the Norma Dasher at the moment. If your more interested in that I'd call Norma and ask. The Norma/Shiraz design was a great idea but with so many Lapua based Dashers already in existence it didn't catch on a well as it should have. The Norma Dasher cases are slightly smaller at the back end by .001"-.0015" and the reamers for it are optimized in that dimension along with the longer neck. The Norma Dasher is a great case but I can see it dying a slow death while anything based off the Lapua with the short neck will live on. Just buy enough brass if you go the Norma route.
