6 Dasher help

Im a BR rookie. I'm rebarreling to 6 Dasher a new to me rifle (my first BR gun). I have a 8 twist Krieger and will be shooting 400-1000 yards. Planning to shoot Berger 105's.

What length should I finish the barrel?

I'm using Lapua hydro formed brass, Varget, and CCI-450's. What should the starting load of Varget be and in what increments should I step up the charge during testing?

What MV should I be trying to achieve?

Where should I start my seating depth to test?

I try to get my barrels to finish out at 28" I think that's plenty. As for seating depth. I always on a new barrel start with bullets on the lands. If your brass isn't fully formed I would suggest running the bullets .01-.015 in the lands so you can get a fully formed case. If they have been partially formed and the shoulder still isn't sharp I'd say start around 31 grains of Varget I use 30.5 on BR brass to form with but that's virgin brass.
As for starting load on a fully formed case I'd say 31.5 grains to start and work up in .3 grain increments. You will find a sweet spot around 32.3-32.7 grains. Once you find a good sweet spot then play with seating depth in .003 increments going into the lands and then back off them.

I think JamesnTN is right on the money>>IF you have a 104+ freebore and you are shooting 105 Berger VLD's. However, as personal preferences go, I like a 30" barrel as I have had both the 28 and the 30" models. Nothing wrong with a 28" though..

In my experience with hydro formed brass, I've been able to run the same load as worked up with fully formed brass. (No reason for me to download the hydro cases) No problem trying to get close with hydro brass but I would find tune it with fully formed brass.

I assume you have a chronograph since you questioned what velocity you needed to get to?
don't worry about your velocity concentrate on a low ES and SD number and your accuracy strive for single digit numbers with accuracy. your barrel may like to be shot at 3k where another may prefer 3060

I will shoot over my chrono. Thanks for the info. Very helpful

Agree with info above. If you shoot a barrel break in procedure, recommend you do it with loads starting around 31.7gr and work up to 33.3 in .2 or .3gr increments. This is with Varget and single shots. As you go through your break in procedure you will also find where pressure signs appear. This will give you a limit to work up to. Once excess pressure signs appear do not continue to work up in grain weight.

My BAT with 1:8 Krieger's sweet spot is 33.0 Varget with the 105 Hybrids.
