6 dasher bullets

I am new to the 6 dasher and have been reading a lot of posts about loads and see alot of Berger 105VLD listed, but I was wandering if you use match target VLD or match hunting VLD. What works best for you ?

My shooting buddy and I both shoot 6br and .243win. I shoot the target 105 VLD's and he shoots the hunting 105 VLD's. The target VLD's have a thicker jacket than hunting VLD's (or so we've been told) but we haven't seen any difference between the two from an accuracy stand point. I was getting ready for a competition until I realized I didn't order any bullets. I borrowed some of my buddy's hunting VLD's and couldn't tell any difference.

The thicker jacket is supposed to help prevent bullet failure at high velocities but we haven't had a bullet failure even with the thinner jackets. We have done a lot of testing to see if we can get bullet failure with the thinner jackets but nothing so far even out of the .243win (velocity about 3200 fps).

I have also compared batches of the two bullets with my bullet comparator and weight sorted batches of both bullets. I wasn't comparing the two bullets together, I was comparing the quality control standards of the target vld's vs. the hunting vld's and I didn't see anything that convinced me that the quality control was any different.

IMO there is no difference (accuracy wise) in the two bullets. The only difference would be the thicker jacket of the target bullet and like I said I haven't seen that make a difference on paper.

I will get the target match VLD's since I am will be using them for paper targets, but it is good to know that if the target VLD is not available that the hunting VLD's will work.

The hunting bullets will have a minute better BC due to the smaller hollow point over the target bullet.

At Dasher speeds, bullet blow up should not be a concern.

I know I'm not the authority on these bullets but I have done extensive testing with both of them and even though I agree with the theory you're presenting the smaller hollow point has shown no MOA increase on the targets out to 600 yards.

I'm not the authority either. I guess I should have said in theory there should be an advantage. My only side by side test was with the 6.5 140 VLD's, and that showed no difference in height of POI at 500 either. Maybe at 1K it could/would show up. They did print about six inches apart though.

It has been said, though, that the target bullets will show a bigger improvement by pointing, than can be achieved by pointing the hunting versions, because of the hole size.

Regardless, itty bitty groups are the main goal.......

Try jumping Sierra Match Kings 15 thou off the lands if your searching for a new buillet. The price is good, readily available, seating depth tolerant and they are very uniform and shoot great (as good as some premium custom bullets I tried).

I don't know about any one else but i had to jump the 105 vld about 20 thosand to make then shoot in my dasher

Go with the Match Hunting bullets.

A while back (year or two?) Berger changed the meplat on the Match Target version of the 105, reducing the BC below the 108 and making it a much less appealing bullet. Before the change, I shot 105 VLD Hunting and Target interchangeably (with just an adjustment to the seater stem to get the same length--like I would with any lot change) to the same point of impact out to 1000 yards.

But, once they changed the Target version, I've switched to the hunting exclusively. I've never had one go unaccounted for in my 6BRX. (In any of three barrels so far)

If the 105 Hybrids come out as expected in 6 weeks or so, that'll be the bullet to go with. But in the meantime, you want the Hunting, since you aren't going to be vaporizing 105s out of a dasher. (If you were shooting a .243, that might be a different story)

thankyou for the info. I have already ordered 500 match bulets to try 2 days ago, but will be looking for the new hybrid bulllets when they are released . I did not know about the new bullets.

Pointed vs Unpointed

the pointed 107's hit 12 inches higher
and the group was much smaller

The pointed 107's hit 12 inches higher and the group was much smaller.

I've been sitting on the fence on whether to get into pointing or not.

A more consistent and better BC, along with smaller groups, are hard to ignore.

If I wouldn't have shot myself in the foot with a 5 for score on the very first Light Gun target, I might have placed better yet. Hard to make up that much ground......

I'll make a bold statement here.. I've shot the 108's for years to get the best results till now...you'll can sell all your 105vld's/108bt's...the 105 hybrids are the new " magic" bullets. The results they are producing are impressive! I use to be fairly happy with 2 1/2-3" regular groups at 600 yards. Now, with the hybrids, I'm seeing 1 1/2 - 2" repeatable groups at the same yardage. Berger has really done well with these bullets..

The bullets shoot really well seated backwards ;D ;D No wait, you aren't shooting F-Class are you??? ;D ;D

They shoot really well for me jumped .015 thousands...Pretty much the first load I tried, and they shoot lights out...
