6 dasher build question

Anybody out there using remington brass in a dasher with no turn necks? What neck diameter did you use on the reamer? What are you getting for loaded round diameter?

My dads in the process of getting a 6 dasher built to shoot 68gr flatbase bullets. he is getting ready to order a reamer. As I said he wants to use his pile of rem brass. He has a whidden bushing sizer but no bushing yet. Any advice is appreciated.

First thing I would do is pass on the Rem brass.

Nothing really wrong with the brass until you try to purchase more. It can be hard to find as it is old stuff. I think you are looking at false economy.

Set the rifle up for Lapua brass. The majority of the reamers and loads you will see on the net are for Lapua brass. The brass is strong and you will get many reloads out of the brand.

Just my .02

Well is there a standard chamber that will allow to shoot either case? He has over 1000 and probably wont be persuaded otherwise. He could just get different bushings if needed for lapua brass down the road

The old Remington 6BR case has a short overall length of 1.520".

Unless the reamer used has a similarly short chamber, you'll be looking at a nice carbon ring in the chamber.

If it was me I would send some brass and bullet to the reamer maker. Let him make the reamer for the brass and the bullets.68 gr bullets are going to take a short throat. Larry

I'll second the recommendation to sell the Rem stuff and invest the proceeds in Lapua. I tried fireforming some Remington 6BR in one of my first Dashers, and got splits at the shoulder in 4 out of 5 attempts. By all means, speak with your reamer maker about the matter - as mentioned, there are dimensional differences between Rem & Lapua that would create issues.
