6 Dashed to 6BR?

I just found some Norma 6 Dasher brass at a good price but my intention is to size it to 6BR. Can I expect any issues? Seems like an easy task of just running it through a f.l. sizer or am I missing something?

I wouldn't think you could push the shoulder back .100".

I wouldn't recommend trying to push all that shoulder into the neck then deal with thinning it back out.

First of all, it may be a good price because it is the original Norma 6 Dasher and you will find the rims to be too large for your shell holder and/or your extractor.
Next, even if someone gave me some 6 Dasher brass(any brand) I wouldn't attempt to convert it to 6BR. You will lose way more than you will ever gain in the process.

Thank you for the replies. I may have a barrel re-chambered to Dasher just as an excuse to try this caliber.

I tried to push the shoulder of some Lapua brass fired in a Dasher chamber to a 6BR-Ai by running it through a 6 BR-AI FL die.....didn't work. The new shoulder was wrinkled and the brass sprang back and would not chamber in the BR-AI chamber. James

So I was thinking of trimming the 6 Dasher .10" before running them through the 6BR sizer die. Do you think that is the best first move? I have one of those mini chopsaws everyone is using to make 300 blackout from. 223 brass.

Wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it. How long does it take to trim each case to length?
Isn't the case weakened by trim/removing so much metal. Is there very thin case wall somewhere?

Case wall thickness doesn't change, so there's no weakening. The new necks are too thick, though, since they're made from wall material, and usually have to be turned and annealed.

Case forming is just another metal extrusion process.

I would never have the patience to make 6BR brass from 6 Dasher brass, especially when really great 6BR brass is available. But if you're going to do it I would trim after forming. The Norma Dasher case is only 0.050" longer than a 6BR case, so trimming 0.100" is WAY too much.

The OPs question was 6Dasher to 6BR. I think your photos are a completely different situation.

Huh? Pushing back the shoulder is the same process regardless of what you're forming.

Apparently you've never formed one case from another by shortening the parent case. It's really no big deal.

So now I can't decide what is the next smartest move. I think I am willing to sacrifice a few cases to see if I can make them into 6br without too much trouble. If that doesn't work I will probably invest in a re-chamber and dies. Thanks for the replies and keep them coming.

Toby do you have any tips you can pass along? My experience with forming brass to other calibers is limited. .243 to .260, .308 to .338 Federal and 22-250 to 6.5 Creedmoor.

Free advice? Sure, and worth every penny you paid. :)

Rechamber to 6 Dasher and use the Norma brass as it was intended. You get an extra 150 fps and no Popeye arm from pushing the shoulders back on all that brass.

Reforming Dasher brass into BR seems like going backwards to me. Pushing on a 40 degree Dasher shoulder with a 30 degree BR FL die might not work too well, either, but of course it's easy enough to try if you already have a BR FL die.

I stand corrected. I thought the shoulder would be crushed and wrinkled downward. Hard for me to picture it flowing upward into the form of a long neck. I keep my calibers simple to deal with.
