6 Creedmoor

Have decided on my next build. Having GA Precision build me a 6 Creedmoor. Anyone here have results with them past 600? Plan on this being my jack of all trades rifle, fclass, tactical matches and varmint. Trued 700 action, 28' 1-7.5 5R bartelin heavy palma or MTU, Manners T4A with CG tactical trigger. Want to shoot the 105 hybrids, if I can ever find any...

I too am deciding to build one!

I was wondering, if i get a 7.5 twist barrel, will i be able to shoot the 87s with any accuracy? Or will it just blow em up? I like the idea of being able to shoot the real heavies if i decide too, but also shoot the 87s for yotes. What do yall think??

I love mine its on a trued rem.700 got about 25 rounds down it .Its got a bartlein 5r 1&8 and loves 105s on a med palma.in a m40 mcmillan

Sounds like a great build....just wanted to let you know that you can get hybrids at http://store.thirdgenerationshootingsupply.com/ good luck

I would imagine that if they hold together at the speed you shoot them, then the 87Vmax shouldn't have any trouble shooting well out of a 7.5-twist. Perhaps not up to point-blank benchrest standards, but plenty of high power shooters use them at 300 yards, where they shoot very well--although mostly from small 6mms below 3000 fps. You might start disassembling them at higher speeds (the 105 Amax, for example, seems to have problems start in a 7.5 twist in the range of 3150fps or so, but perfectly fine below that), but if they keep together, I would imagine that they'd shoot well.

Out of curiosity, how fast and with what twist are you shooting the 87s now?

I'm not yet, buy have a barrel on order with a 8 twist. I think I'll just stay with the 8 twist and shoot the 105s if need be. Gonna be a varmint rifle anyway, just didn't wanna commit to a certain bullet weight with a slower twist

I have just started shooting a GAP10 in 6 Creedmoor. It's a laser out to 600 for sure. I shoot long range tactical matches. I bought it from a guy that primarily used it for coyote hinting. He had a picture of a first round hit on a steel prairie dog at 1100 yards. I got first round hits on four unknown distance targets in our club match this past Saturday. While I missed milling one of the targets by about 30 yards I still hit it on the first round at around 440 yards. I am shooting the 105 Hornady match bullets over H4350 in the Creedmoor brass. I dial 2.9 to 3.0 mils for 600 yards depending on the DA.

Cody, quick question, why did you go the 1:7.5 twist if you were gonna shoot the 105s?

With the advent of the 105 Hybrids, unless someone comes out with another bullet with a higher BC that needs more twist, I can not see buying a barrel twisted faster than 1:8 right now. Hopefully Berger will come out with a 115g Hybrid or similar with higher BC and we will need the faster twist for that.

Hoping for a 115 hybrid lol but if not I have a few hundred DTAC's I want to try and I know from my 243 that they wouldn't shoot well in a 1-8. Plan on shooting the 105 hybrid but having the option to go heavy can't hurt. However finding a 1-7.5 in stock is proving to be a little difficult.

We have some Bartlein and Krieger 7.5" twist barrels in stock here:

If you had a 6Creed built it would look something like this, cept I've got the T4 Manners and 28" 8 twist HV Bart. Haven't taken it past 600 yet, best was 3.5" this Aug, the 8 twist shoots the 115DTACs just fine, just shot a couple groups this past Wed. best at 300yds was 1.285", best ever was a .400" at 300 was with 105 Hornady HPBTs with 41.6grs H4350. I remeasured the group today, please excuse the .376" on the target. Yeah, 41.6grs H4350 under the 105s hits same as the 41.9grs with 115DTACs at 300. 3144 vs 3086

Something about the living room with the grandfathers clock in the background just doesn't work for the rifle pic above.

I absolutely LOVE my 6 Creedmoor. It was a 2004 Savage Model 12 FV 204 Ruger. I swapped the bolt nose out. Bought a 26" Shilen Select Match Savage pre fit barrel from James @ Northland Shooters Supply. Twisted it on. Installed a bench style Bell & Carlson Stock, adjusted the accutrigger to right @ a crisp pound., Threw a Tuner break on it, and had the barreled action bedded to the stock. It shoots 87 Vmax's and 105 Bergers, LIGHTS OUT! Here is the Berger target.

Built my 6 Creed about 3 years ago. Started out with a wilson barrel and it shot really good using Hornady 105 ELD's out to a 1000 yds.

Shot that barrel out and replaced it with a krieger barrel, 28". It also gave me great results with the 105's.

Now for some reason I decided to try the Hornady 108 ELD's and glad I did.

The 108's gave me 35 FPS faster at the 1000 yd target and a 5.4" group.

This was using the same load and powder as with the 105"s (40.6gr H4350, CCI 400)

My 6 Creedmoor is built on a Borden Alpine action. 28" Brux 1:7 twist heavy varmint lil bastard break, Rem VSSF HS Stock, Jewel trigger.

I use Lap brass, H4350 powder and CCI 450 primers. I shoot both the Berger 109LRHT and Hornady 108 ELDM. The Bergers are doing 3150 with 42.8gr, the ELDMs 3275 with the same charge. Both loads will shoot 1/4 moa or just over out to 1200 yards. This is by far the most accurate and easy to shoot rifle I've ever owned. Prefer this over my Kelbly FTR rifles for accuracy and ease to shoot.

Ended up going with a 28' M40 7.7 twist.
Anyone have enough rounds down to get an estimate on barrel life?
Barrel life is not good. Mine has 600 odd rounds through it and is quite extensively fire cracked. If you compare it to my F Class 308 with 1800 rounds on it, it's chalk and cheese. Cleaning regimes have been the same with both guns, only the course of fire is different, F Class being slower. I think it will be toast at 1000-1200, but it is what I kinda figured as I didn't build it to run it at 3/4 throttle.
