6 BRX vs. 6 Dasher Advice

I am looking to build a dedicated mid-range rifle and I have tried to read on here everything I could get on a search, to see pluses and minuses with these two cartridges. I will be starting from square one with this project with nothing but a 6BRX reamer available to me that has a .107 F-B, which I gather is to short and a very good supply of 105 JLK bullets. I prefer to at least skim turn all the necks for accuracy reasons, so if someone has experience with both cartridges and would share the reasons that one is superior over the other, I would appreciate your thoughts.

The new Norma/Shiraz 6Dasher brass would be my suggestion to setup for.
With that said, I also suggest your own reamer that compliments both the new brass and the bullets you plan on using. Shiraz has a reamer designed for the brass that is throated for 105 class bullets, that you may want to consider.

There is no accuracy advantage as far as we can tell of the BRX over the Dasher. The Dasher is only more popular because it has a cool sounding name.

Lapua is the best brass. The new Norma stuff we still dont really know for sure yet so anything from it would be a gamble.

I faced this same question 5 yrs. ago. I decided on the BRX because I could use my existing 6BR dies and have never regretted it. I shoot matched every weekend for 6 mo out of the yr from 100 to 1000yds and have had sucess. If your reamer has a throat to short a good gunsmith will be able to throat it out to match you bullet choiec. I shoot Eazor 106 gr and Bob Green throats my barrells to match the bullet, not a big deal. I love my PPc but many days after shooting my BRX at 100 yds with the long 106 bullets I think I might just retire the PPC, which I have except for 100 yd agg. matches.

I have had a 6BRBS in 2002( Bill Shehane's Dasher) It shot great. I went to a 6BRX in 2004 on a Hall action, my current BRX is a Bat B action. They are so close just flip a coin,Look at the cost of dies. I have not tried the Dasher just for the cost of new dies and setup. I don't think it is any difference. The one I am looking at now is the 6BR AI, look in this web site. It is just AI the case, not blow it out 0.100". The speed you are looking for is 2975 f/s with a 105, this case will give you that. The BRX and Dasher will give you 3100, but shoot best at 2975 f/s.

I would build a dasher over a brx Not that is better shooting .it don't need to be trimed as often . Reamer would be no turn with 135 FB . Reason for not building for new brass Till brass is has been tested and proven .
The reamer has a long neck and only that brass will work .
I'm sure the brass will be great . If it is great it will be as hard to get as powder is . With the no turn neck you can shoot both . Larry

I own both and one might ask why...because I wanted to be able to keep my brass separated and be able to tell them apart on the bench.

How good the barrel is that is chambered in either will depend on which one shoots better. And a .107 isn't to short, I shoot 105 hybrids in a .104 freebore. I just had a new barrel spun and gunsmith asked me if I wanted to try a longer freebore reamer he recently received...I declined, I know what the .104 tune is and how to get them to shoot...I didn't want to have to start over figuring crap out. I work to much and when I shoot now days its normally at a match. If I miss, it's not because of my freebore (I'm not shooting little groups in paper, the clay shoots in TX are a blast!)

Personally I would go with Shiraz's new Dasher brass, but if your going Lapua than this^^^

I have the BRX havnet got to shoot it much but I love it.
I did get in on the Norma dasher brass didn't see why I couldn't size it to the BRX and have the long neck.

I have both, the BRX is my favorite, but on a 1 to 100 scale, the Dasher rates 90%, and the BRX rates 95 Plus!

JMO, I do love both. Both barrels are custom machined for me. Apache makes very accurate barrel and is really working with a very limited supply. I will get their business, but I just amtierd of waiting. I can't wait for that day to come.

It looks like the BRX it will be for me. Although, Titan700 has a great idea. I have always been a proponent of 30* shoulders and longer necks. The .107 freebore isn't a problem as I can always have it throated to suit by bullet specs. I will be using Lapua brass, and I will be cleaning up the necks.
Can anyone give me the proper neck diameter the reamer so as to have proper clearance on a turned neck?

Dennis, in answer to your question regarding Brux barrels, I have them in 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm and .308. They are Very good barrels and are amazingly predictable. I use 200 rds. down the tube as a rule of thumb as to when a bbl. is gonna settle down and speed up. My 7mm bbl. is at 170 rds. and is showing those traits. As an aside, the folks at Brux are a real pleasure to deal with as well.
