6 BR pistol

Shot my new Savage Striker 6mm BR for the first time today. It has a CBI barrel cut to 15". Well it shoots like all my other 6 BR's. It has a 2.5 x 8 Leopold pistol scope on it. The scope is a big factor, I use NF 12 x 42 or 8 x 32, on my rifles, so the 8X is a big change. Groups ran in the 0.5" to 0.6" range with small group 0.260"

Its takes a bit to get used to shooting the low power scopes again. What twist is it? Are you going to hunt with it?

Mark They are fun gun . I have a striker like yours . I have short barrels 22-250 7-08 308 223 and 6 BR All my small skank savage barrel's fit. Nothing is more fun then when I put the 300 Rem ultra mag barrel on .
Nice gun Happy New Years. Larry

I love shooting steel animals and a few live ones with our 6br pistols.

Inventory includes a T/C Encore, an old Rampro and Jr's Nesika switch barrel in 6br and 243AI.

Can you make one of these by changing the stock on a rifle and installing a short barrel?

Legally you'd need to keep the barrel 16"+ and overall length 26"+. If it started life as a rifle then it will always be that way. If you wanted to go shorter you could pay the $200 for the stamp to have a short barreled rifle.

The only other issue would be the trigger. If you want it to have the grip up forward like a striker or xp-100 then you'd need a trigger and I don't know of anyone making them for strikers. If you want the grip at the back of the action you could keep the rifle trigger and be good to go.

Looks good! I have a 19" 6mm BR pistol and it's a ton of fun. What's your load and velocities from that gun? I'm running a mild load with the 90gr Berger BT @ 2680 fps.

Try throwing a rifle scope on there and see how you like it. The little BR doesn't have much recoil at all so you can probably get pretty close to shooting with a full field of view and not worry about getting kissed by the scope. My gun is a bit heavier than yours but I can shoot with a full field of view using an SIII 8-32x56 scope and not get smacked. The glass on handgun scopes makes them a bit of a chore to shoot sometimes.

Andrew,
I shot it today. It will shoot any thing I put in it. I have more 87 gr Vmax and 90 gr. Berger. They will shoot to the same POI with the same load. 80 gr berger have shot the best at 100 yds, the 90's at 200 yds. I have not checked the speed yet. The load for the 90 gr is Varget and BR-4 primers. 80's load is N135 and BR-4.

Sounds like it's shooting great for you! I'm running 30.6gr of Varget and CCI 450s with the 90gr berger and they'll shoot as well as I can. Was shooting that load at 672 yards yesterday and it held minute of clay pigeon every shot which is good enough for me. The 68gr FB has worked great for me as well but gets tossed around pretty bad by the wind.

I will try the 87gr Vmax and 90 BT with N135, but the varget load is working good. The gun is zeroed with them at 200yds., and will work well. The 105gr Vld's POI is well below the 90gr. The 80 gr Berger's shot the best at 100yds, but I only have a few left. I will work up a load with the Berger 105 gr. hunting bullets for deer.

I Have a contender in 6BR. I know the gun really wants to shoot. I have a 10 twist so I put 87 grain hunting VLD's in it. Matt

H4895 87 v-max ( sort them with a Sinclair bullet comparator ) lapua case with cci br 4 primer. My barrel is a 17 inch 10 twist Broughton. My best 5 shot was in the low 2's with a bipod and a bag. Pistol is a
Wichita Sil. Model

I also have a pacnor 13.5 twist that shoots the 55 nosler very well with XBR 8208.

Mark, Curious about the barrel you started with to cut down. New or used? Contour?

It is a new CBI 8 tw 26" Varmint taper. It was new in stock, got it in 3 days. If I ordered a 15", it would take 12 to 14 weeks, and would have cost a little more due to short length. I had it cut local.

Nice Striker. What taper is your barrel and did you have to modify the barrel channel on the stock?

It is a Varmint taper. I had rasp the will open a stock for a 10-22 heavy barrel. It worked good, but the plastic is tuffer than wood.
