6 BR 9 twist ok for 105 Amax?

Looking for a compromise twist that can do a reasonable job on both the 105 and 87 Hornady Vmax if possible. I believe 8 twist would be best for the 105 and 10 for the 87. Will a 9 twist do a credible job on both or would it be wiser to just pick one only?

Also what about throat length? Would .094" favor the longer or shorter bullet?

Thanks,

Phil

I run 87gr vmax in 1:8 with no problems at all 0.2 inch groups at 100m ..no problem at all and done it in 243 and 6BR ..go the 1:8 for 105gr and 87gr vmax

I took my new 6mmBR barrel to the smith along with a dummy cartridge with a 105 A-Max seated with the heel of the bullet just forward of the neck/shoulder junction and had him throat the barrel to that dimension. Interestingly, the 87 V-Max has plenty of neck surface to work with in this set-up, and that bullet and 8208XBR will be next on my load work up list.

Did the smith tell you what freebore you ended up with?

No, he didn't. I did check again after breaking in the barrel. The A-Max sits on the lands with the heel just at the neck/shoulder junction, so when it erodes just a tad, it'll be seating forward of any donut formation.
