6 BR 107 and 105 comparisons

I am stunned how tight these 1-8 6BR rifles will shoot with these heavy bullets. So far I have tested the Sierra 107 jumped .020" with R-15/"Long Range Match" pulldown, and 8208 XBR. Both shot crazy good at 200 in horrible winds.

I also have 100 105 Noslers that I am loading next. I am very interested in the Noslers, as I always found Nosler hunting bullets to be absolutely superb. I've shoot 100's of thousands of 55 gr Ballistic Tips.

I just ordered 300 Hornady 105's (they were on sale at Midway). These are crazy cheap. I saw that a new 600 yard record was set with these.

Berger's are pretty pricy but I assume they shoot like mad. There are so many Bergers in these weights I get confused as to which is which. Question is, what do you like, how do these compare? Which Berger is the best one from the ease of reloading?

Are you jumping the bullets or in the lands?

PS: I shoot a Kreiger barreled custom 40x with a 272" no turn neck chamber with Lapua brass and CCI 450 primers. It was built by Stick at S and S Precision. Also, I moly all my own bullets. Always have shot moly. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about....

Bradley, I shoot moly on everythig too and like it fine.
The simplest choice in a Berger for the 6BR is the 108, they shoot great and can take whatever seating depth you prefer. For what it's worth, I jam them 0.020".

Excellent. Thank you.

Ever jam the Sierra?

German,

Will have my new 6 BR by May 26 ( Gun Smith willing) Kreiger 31" 1-7.5. Have a lot of 107's Nosler and Sierra.
What Powder do you like ?

Don

Brad, yes, I jam the Sierra the same amount.

Don, for the 6BR, I really like Reloder 15 and IMR 4320 (but don't tell anyone about 4320, it's a great secret! ;) )

There is still very little response from anyone shooting the Nosler 105. I guess I will let you know!

Bradley,

I resorted to the Hornady 105gr BTHP recently, as my local source was out of 107gr SMK`s (gasp!). I moly coated them as is the norm here for all my 6mm F-Class rifles and they were jammed the same as the SMK`s and yesterdays test at 250yds with 30gr of Varget netted the same if not a wee bit better results. And yes, I`m using an 8" twist Shilen barrel on a Savage with 24X glass, fired prone off a Harris bi-pod.

Regards,

Scott

I recently bought a box of hornady 105 bthp. Measured with a 6mm comparator with a Sinclair body. I got #21 that measured 1.678, & #79 measured 1.665. I will send these back. Never had any Bergers off near that much. I like the vmaxs for varmints though.

I saw something similar. The seating depths were all over the place with the Hornady in comparison to the Sierra. I assume the distance the comparator point was varying.... As these long bullets seem to do.

They really need to make a sweater stem that gets these bullets seated from the ogive. Not some point way further out on the nose. I think the seater stem in the Wilson is more suited to the shorter bullets.

It seems to me that this box of #100 had to be from two different lots. There were no in between lengths. 21 were 1.678 & 79 were
1.665. I email hornady but they haven't responded yet.

How did you measure them?

Bradley,

I jam at least 10 thou, sometimes more depending on the condition of each barrel.

Scott

Bradley, I used a Sinclair 6mm comparator. BTW I sent them back to Hornady. In the larger bunch of 21, the weights were
about 1-2gr heavier. Maybe I'll try the Nosler 105's. Anybody doing any good with them?
