6.8SPC

I have an AR15 in 223 and was looking for a round I could use in the AR and in a bolt gun.

I would like to be able to swap out the uppers and go from my 223 to something else and use the “something else caliber” for shooting out to 600 yrds in a bolt action.

I do not want to get an entire new AR style rifle and then a bench or F class rife. I would just like to have a round I can shoot out of both guns.

I was looking on line and was reading about the Remington 6.8 SPC and was wondering if anyone is familiar with the accuracy of that round in a bolt action rifle.

,1) For the AR, 6.5 Grendel,or 6mm AR) is ballistically superior to 6.8 SPC.

,2) For the bolt gun, 6.5 Grendel works fine, but is a BIG compromise. Even a short-action bolt gun can accomodate a much larger cartridge than the AR. Also, the bolt gun can be loaded to significantly higher pressure. You'd be much better off with a 6.5x47 Lapua, new), 6XC, 6mm Competition Match, wildcat) or even a plain-jane 260 Rem.

Since you won't be shooting the same load in both guns, it seems a false economy to require them to be the same caliber. You won't save much money, maybe $200 for dies and brass).

So, if you've got money to spend and it itches real bad, get a new upper for your AR. Otherwise, just leave it as a .223 and put your money towards a good bolt gun. That's my 2 cents worth.

I was afraid of that.

I have done a lot of looking around and did not see any viable alternatives to another AR platform and then another bolt gun of the same caliber.

I was really hoping some one else smarter than me could give me a couple of ideas.

Now I'm back to an AR and a bolt gun in 308.

Why don't you buy an upper in .223 with a 26" and a 1 in 7" twist that would allow you to shoot heavy bullets,75-80 grains)farther than 600 yards and rebarrel a Rem 700 or a Savage 10 or 12 with the same kind of barrel?
So you would need only a set of dies and you could shoot 2 different cartridges...
