6.8 SPC11

Hay, I've got an AR barrel here in 6.8SPC. Since all the folks read on the internet that you can not hit the broad side of the mountain and it will blow your gun into many pieces unless it is the improved version 6.8 SPC11. I was wondering if anyone had a reamer to open my chamber to the new specs? The free bore gets lengthened a wee and the diameter of the mouth of the case is opened 0.010". All it would take is to stick the new reamer in the chamber and hand turn it until it was deep enough to modify my chamber to the SPC11 specs. That way I could sell this barrel/upper/gun to the guy who just has to have it. I know that in a few hundred rounds the free bore would be just fine but Everybody knows you just have to have the latest modified chamber or it will not work and yes, you can get two more angels on the head of that pin.
Can anyone help me out?
Craig

I've been shooting the original 6.8spc since it came out. I've never had a problem with it. To myself, it's like my 284. I don't have a need for a shehane.

You know that and I know that. My problem is that folks take stuff that they read on the internet and will never believe different. It's kind of like the 5.56/.223 difference. I really don't know anyone still using the SAAMI .223 chamber. Most chambers are the Wilde chamber and the Hildebrandt chamber used by Savage and others that are so close to the Wilde that it doesn't make a bit of difference. Besides they are more accurate than the USGI 5.56 NATO chamber. I got one suggestion about the 6.8 and that was to shoot a series of TUBB bullets in the barrel and that will lengthen the throat out just fine. I think that is what I should do. I have a NECO bullet plating setup and it would be fairly simple.

I understood your point. I don't understand why they want a lengthened throat. Your already restricted with AR length mags. My 110-115 gn bullets are already jumping quite a lot. Even in a single shot bolt rifle that was shooting 130gn bullets wouldn't work well. There isn't enough powder capacity for that heavy of a bullet. If that's what you need to do to sell the barrel, then go for it. First question yourself this. Would you buy a used barrel with a modified chamber that wasn't stamped on the barrel? I've seen a lot of stuff for sale over the years, that wasn't what the seller claimed it was. Will you be able to prove to a buyer that the throat was lengthened?

I agree with everyone. I usually take a buyer out to the range and we shoot it to see that it is up to his expectations. Personally, I shot a 6WOA Spacegun XC. I shot more 200 cleans with that gun than any I ever owned. The 6.8 is a hunting barrel and if a potential buyer finds it's accuracy and velocity to his satisfaction; it should sell. I usually have my chronograph set up to verify the velocity also. My problem up here in "Upper Slobovia" is that there is not a lot of stuff to hunt with that cartridge. Most of our stuff is a bit oversized for this ".270 really short". I guess that my customer might be a coyote hunter. There is usually a price for a product where someone will just have to have it. I'll just have to wait and see what finally happens.
Thanks!

I got the bug for the 6.8 SPC. Didn't want to modify my .223 AR so I built one on a Savage action. EVERYBODY talked about the 6.8 SPC II being the "only way to go" and NOTHING else would work. ::)
Went with the standard 6.8 SPC with the shorter throat (rather than the SPC II) so I could jam my bullets into the lands.
Works like a champ and no issues. 5 shots, from the bench at 100 yards in the - 1/2" range. Started off shooting 90 grain bullets and will go heavier as the throat wears.

I also have both an LWRC in 6.8 SPC II and a Remington 700 in 6.8SPC and to my amazement they both shoot the same 115 grain Sierra load very well! So the LWRC is the SPCII chamber and the Remy is standard no pressure signs from the Remy??? This hype on the internet sometimes is good but I find most of it is just selling more products for the mfgs.!
Just my two cents!
