6.5x55 vs. 260 Remington

With a long action I would go with the 6.5 x 55, you can get Lapua brass for it and for me that makes the decision right. The last reamer I bought was a 6.5 x 55 AI and it shoots 139 g Scenars with great accuracy, I cleaned some 20 round relay targets at 300 meter when I was fire forming new brass.

I went with the AI to compete with the 6.5 x 284 as I have the same volume and maybe I will get longer barrel life. The 6.5 x 55 will easily get you to 1,000 yards especially with handloads, the factory loads are anemic so some of the older Norwegian Krags do not blow up.

Think about how many cartridges are still going strong after 100 years, they must have done something right in the design.

Thats why im going with the 260AI, i picked it over the 6.5x284 simply for barrel life. After that i would have no worries, if you look too close at all the little subtleties you will get a headache, and once you have the caliber you chose youre gonna love it and not tell the difference without a calipers anyways.

I get joy from my 6.5x55 shooting 130 TSX with 47.1gr of RL22, Lapua, GM210M at 3.030". Shoots .385" 3 shots consistant. 8" twist at 21 1/4" barrel..2755fps. This is safe in my Mod 70. May or may not be for you...work up wisely. Good barrel life..very minimal kick.
