6.5x55 primers problem : Could You help me ?

Hello I'm Giuliano from Italy

I have a blaser LSR2 in cal. 6.5x55 with a 627 mm barrel lenght.

In this weekend i found my accuracy reload with 140 grains of Berger bullets 52.5 grains of H1000 and aol 81 mm.

I measured with chrony my bullets and i seen 837-840 m/sec.

I used magnum primer 215 but they are flat, pierced).

I seen that type of reload on quickload is safe but now i don't sure.

I used non magnum primer without success.

Could You help me ?

Giuliano

I have been using the same powder in my 65x55 with 48.0gr, Winchester large rifle primers and 140gr Nosler Composition Bullets. I have no signs of pressure in the primers . They are not Even flat. My barrel is 28 inches long. Try backing up the powder under 50.0grs and use standard primers.

I suspect your barrel is tighter,ie very slightly smaller in internal diameter) than what Quickload is looking at. Not a problem, you just need to back off the powder some or go to a slightly slower powder.

I have the same situation with a 6mmBR that my wife shoots. Had to change powders, from Varget to VV550)and it shoots wonderfully with the slower powder. Last outing she shot a 1.375" 5-shot group at 600 yards.

Unless my math is haywire, 837m/sec = 2746fps. I use N160 with moly'd S142MKs and get just over 2900fps with no sign,s) of excess pressure, but my barrel is 30", while yours is only 24". H1000 is considerably slower than N160, but 52.2grs. would probably be a fairly warm load.

No matter what factors are at play here, when you get pierced primers, it's time to re-evaluate your load and/or your firing pin.

With that short of a barrel you might need to go to a faster burning powder to get your velocities up. Varget or one of the 4350 would be a good place to start. I have a model 96 Swede Mauser with the 29 inch barrel and with under 46000 CUP loads I can get 2850 fps with 140 gr bullets with 45 grs Accurate Arms 4350. This same load does in the mid to upper 2500's fps from a 24 inch barrel. You can load quite a bit hotter in a modern action than these 100 or so year old Mausers.
