6.5x55 Lapua Brass and a Remington 700??

Morning Guys,
One on of the other forms someone mentioned that the Lapua brass would not work well with a Remington 700 action because the base is .008 oversized. Does anyone on here have any experience of shooting the Lapua brass in the 700s??? If so what if any problems are you having with it??? Thanks!!!!!

I made the original post. I was going by memory, but for once it didn't fail me. I just mic'd some brass: the Lapua Swede brass I have is,case rim diameter) from .478" to .479", where the regular "308" brass mic's between .470" to .472".

I will be curious to what others have done, maybe my approach of turning down the case rim isn't the best.

Wayne,
Did you try shooting the brass in your 700 before turning it down??If you did what did you incounter?? Thanks!!

I have an original M700 Classic in the 6.5 X 55 Swede. I have been using the Lapua brass with no problems at all. The Lapua, and Norma, brass is built to the CIP Spec. for the Swede and is the correct size since the Swede is slightly bigger than the .30-06 case head. The Remington, and Winchester, cases are pulled from the smaller dia. cups and generally are going to be smaller in dia. than the Lapua, and Norma, cases will be, but I have shot the Remington, and Winchester, brass with no functioning issues at all. I have also used the Federal brass, and I have found it to be closer in Spec. to the Lapua brass. However, the Lapua, and Norma, cases have always given the best overall accuracy, and velocities and are my cases of choice for this cartridge in this Remington 700 Classic.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

I have 2 Rem 700 LA that I had rechambered to 6.5x55 and my lot of lapua brass wouldn't fit in the bolt face and they had to be opened up slightly

Lapua brass is correct, Remington is not. Have your extractor modified via Sako style and your Good to GO.

Winchester and Savage work without modifications to the bolt face, but Remington you'll need to have it worked...good time to to with the Sako Style extractor.

RHINOUT!

I will measure the bolt face on my M700 Classic to see if Remington opened it up just for this year of production for the 6.5 X 55 and let all of you know. I am betting that they did since I have not had any problems with any brass for the Swede.

Bob Blaine

Guys,
I miked the head of the Lapua brass last night and it was .476 and the 06 brass I shot in it was .473 so I can't see where there is going to be a problem with only .003 difference.

I would find it hard to belive that the bolt is machined with a tolerance so tight that it won't accomadate .003 difference. I also tried it in the bolt face of my 308 and the brass snapped right down into the bolt with no problems. So I can't see where I should have any problems. Thanks again for the replys!!
