6.5x55 imp?

For anyone that is interested, here is the reamer print for the GWI. If your interested in getting a bbl. chambered up, let me know and I'll put you in touch with Greg.
Thanks,

Lloyd
Obviously, for any of those variants of the 6.5x55 Swede that use the Ackley "crush" head spacing method, the case capacities are all right about 62gr water. The only way to really expand the case capacity is to move the shoulder forward, significantly, such that the shoulder-neck junction is well above 1.85", to more like 1.89", or so. Increasing the body diameter from 0.455"-->0.468" also grows the case volume a little bit. If anybody simply looks at the photo in post #16, it should be obvious that there is not a 4gr increase in capacity for the 6.5x55 GWI, compared to any of the other 6.5x55 wildcats shown – they're all ~62gr ± 0.5gr, or so. There is a max'ed-out 6.5x55mm wildcat (that I saw on another forum) that has a ~65gr capacity, but that's with the shoulder-neck junction pushed forward to 1.90", with the body blown-out to 0.468" diameter, and having a 35° shoulder angle. The neck is a bare minimum 0.264" length, so there isn't any way to really get the capacity of that case any higher than ~65gr, period – especially using the Ackley "crush" head spacing trick keeping the neck-shoulder junction at 1.85". Sorry, boys...

It is a super great cartridge and highly recommend it. I picked up a Lilja pre-chambered 6.5 x 55 IMP from my smith around 2013. Supposedly a few years previously he was collaborating with Bob Brackney on an ideal 6.5 chambering. I do know that it was chambered by Bart Weider who smithed quite a few winning SRBR rifles in the late '80's - '90's. IIRC the smith referred to it as a 30' Vias version. Low recoil, amazing long range accuracy, easy to find brass and it's deer taking resum`e just keeps adding up.
