6.5x55 boltface

Hi all,
Will it hurt anything to have my boltface opened 3-4 thousands in case I want to switch to 6.5x55 lapua cases. It is not built yet and will have a sako extractor and a 473 dia. boltface. thanks

I shoot with several club members at our range who are using M700 actions barreled for the 6.5x55 and have never witnessed any feeding or chambering problems when using Lapua brass with the factory boltface diameter.

Every one of these shooters think that the rumors of having to open up the boltfaces are old wives tales.

On a Remington they do infact need to be opened up. Savage no, Winchester no. Remington won't work right with a facotry extractor, however with a Sako claw it might work. No hurting opening it up while its installed though.

I had one two years ago and it wouldn't kick the casing out.

So yeah it does need work. Remington cases might be used to use a standard .473 bolt face because they are incorrectly sized.

That's a pretty strong blanket statement. It appears to me that there's probably enough variance in the factory 700 boltface to have it go either way.

Two 700's with stock Remington extractors and unmodified boltfaces belonging to club members function perfectly with Lapua brass, and another one that belongs to a forum member here also works just fine.
