6.5x47Lapua 130gn TMK and Varget

Howdy all.

Is anyone using Varget and the new(ish) Sierra 130gn TMK bullets in the 6.5x47Lapua?

H4350 is like finding unicorn tears in the desert and RL 15 is a close second. I have Varget on hand and am hoping to find a load that will run around 2800-2900(if possible) and be accurate for a class I'm shooting in a couple of months. If it runs a touch slower that will be fine as we're only going to 750 and afterwards the rifle will be living most of its life shooting 2-300 yards.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Haven't shot the new Sierra's yet but 37.3 - 37.5 has been the node for 2 different 6.5x47's for me with 130 Bergers with Wolf primers.

Good deal. Thanks. That seems to be the sweet spot for these rifles with Varget from my looking around on the web. Looks like I know what I'm doing tonight.

What kind of velocity are you getting out of 37.3-37.5 grains of H4350 or Varget with a 130 Berger? Just curious.

I just bought some 6.5-47 barrels and started shooting them. I read the cartridge guide and all the posts about H4350 being the best powder so I started the VERY frustrating search to find it. I did find some and it shoots well but the other day, I was looking at the data in the Berger book and realized I had never read the text in the write up. They suggest Rl-15, Varget and Vihtavouri 540 and never mention H4350. :confused:And I'm sitting on a ton of Varget:)

I was told by someone who shoots a lot with a 6.5x47 that "everyone will tell you to use h4350 but that Varget is the sweet spot for this cartridge ". I have not loaded much Varget yet but will try this year.

I often look at posted data on this site with some skepticism of it's relevance to my rifles. I shoot 22-24" barrels and wonder if I should be in the same powder conversation with all of the folks using 26-29" barrels.

My only experience is with the 130 Berger too. My load is 37.3 gr. Varget, CCI 450, 28" 8.5" twist barrel, and 2875 fps.

I'm running the Sierra 130 gr TMKs with exactly 37.3 grains of Varget and am getting 2884 fps. Have shot several 1/4 moa groups with this combination. (26", 8 twist Bartlein).

Send Berger an email asking for their 130 VLD loads for the 6.5x47. They will send you very updated info with loads for the new powders. I found a few of them to be very warm approaching max in my rifle. Some appeared to have some room left in them. Their customer service is outstanding.

Sorry to stray from the Varget topic

Varget all the way here as well. Ended up at 37.5 grains with either 130 Bergers at 2820 or 123 Amax at 2850 in a 23" Brux.
