6.5x47L load recommendations 123 lapua bullets & 130gr bullets

I am shooting a McGowen 28", 8 twist barrel.

What is your most accurate load for any 130gr bullet?

What is your most accurate load for the 123gr Lapua bullet?

I am shooting a Brux at 25.5" it is a 9 twist,h4350,r15,Varget are you best powders. You may have to go with 142's with that twist,my 6.5 x 284 had a 8.5 twist and it shot the 142's, Watch your primers and bolt lift at the top for pressure signs.A 9 twist is optimum for 130's I am told by gunsmiths.

120SMK's with Varget will put five in the same hole!

Just trying to get a 130 to do the same.

Some say the 123 Lapua is the only way to go!

I have some JLK 140's, I will try them!

Well 5 in one hole is what every shooter is striving to accomplish. No need to change anything in my book. However, consistency is what wins matches as we all know!

I also want to shoot 123-130gr bullets, ( 65.x47) I have a 9 tw 24" Shilen on a trued mod. 12 Savage. Ive tried up to 39g of RL15, no bad signs yet. Seems to be slight powder compression at this point. Has anyone used more than 39g of RL15 with good accuracy results in the mid to long range game. ??? I'm thinking of a faster powder maybe, cause of a short tube.

I have a 8.5 twist Kieger 25". I tried RL15, Varget and H4350. My gun didn't like RL15. Varget was good but H4350 got the best accuracy. I shot 42.1 that was a compressed load but only got me 2850fps. This load has done very well at Bridgeville's 600yd matches.

26'' Brux 8.5 twist

37.2 gr. of Varget shooting 123's which gives me a velocity of 2,950 fps.

It takes 38 grains of R 15 to get me to 2,946 fps.

Hi,
have 30" Lothar Walter match selected tube mounted on Keppeler benchrest rifle, 1:8.5 twist and shoot 123 grs Lapua bullets (Moly) with Vithavouri 35,5 grs N150, and get 2800 fps. This seems like starting load im my barrel (can easily get over 40 grs to get vell over 3000 + fps) :D
Excellent accuracy (low ones) at 100m, single digit ES/SD (5 shoots) and VERY EASY on barrel. I use it for 100 and 300 m shooting (managed to get well under 1" groups on the calm day). I think barrel will last long.
My second best powder is H4350, which gives me best accuracy at 2900 fps or a little over it.

I was told by several shooters that for the 130 Bergers somewhere around 37.5gr Varget was the sweet spot, within a few tenths of a grain. My first 5 shot grouping with that load at 100 yds prone with bipod measured .172 essentially one hole - now if I could shoot that consistently I'd be happy.

25" Krieger 8 Twist. I don't have much freebore so this load runs at 2820fps for me with CCI 450's tested in 104*, 36% Humidity.

123 Scenars I was able to keep most test groups under .445" at 100yds. Much easier to get 2900 - 3006fps avg in similar temps. I'd suggest trying 37gr up to somewhere about 38.3gr Varget with CCI 450's.

All of these loads were with brand new brass. Only brass prep was VLD chamfer of the neck.

I'll probably do an OCW or ladder of some of these loads after my new stock comes in.

Note: I do not shoot BR. I'm working up to shoot some tactical comps - Steel, ukd, kd, hit or miss from different position type stuff.

I am having good luck with the 123gr lapua's and Varget. Out of a 25" Rockcreek 5-R barrel 38gr will get me 2920-2930 avg, and shoots better than I can hold the rifle. This is not a hot load in my rifle.

Another really accurate spot I found was right at 37gr. Grouped well with low ES/SD's. I stuck with the 38gr load b/c it shot the same and gave me an extra 100fps................. Load development for this rifle was tough b/c all loads I shot except for one was capable of producing sub 1/2MOA groups. I ended up letting my chrony do the deciding for me.

btw, both of these loads are about 10-15 thou off the lands. I haven't tried the 130bergers yet b/c I've been told by many who use them that they like to be jammed. This is a tactical rifle so I am not comfortable with jamming them.

28"kreiger 38 gr. RL-15, 2900 fps. 41.8 gr. RL-17 2950 fps. both loads 130 jlk seated .010 in and cci 450 primer shoot in less than 4" vertical at 1000 yds. These loads are up there so start lower. Varget has too much variation lot to lot for me, one lot shot in the one's and the next one shot in the three's at the same speed so i went RL- 15 and never looked back. Now i find RL-17 is also very good......jim

McGowen Barrel, 28" long, 8 twist
Savage Action, small shank
Berger 130 VLD
Lapua Brass
CCI 450
RL 17 39.7gr
.02" Jam
Avg Vel 2950fps
ES 15 fps, SD 7 fps
1/3 MOA
Easy Bolt lift, no ejector marks

Slim, hard to find someone who has the exact setup as I do! I will try your load! Have you ever tried a 1K shot with this load? How's your 600yd average? Just asking, Thanks, Dennis
