Ogre,

We were having a 6.5x47 and 6-6.5x47 switch-barrel rifle built. The Plan was that Jason was to test it extensively this summer/fall. We are still waiting on the gunsmith, unfortunately.

We do plan to do a Cartridge Guide but those can require up to 100 man-hours of work. I'm already working 60 hours a week on the site right now. If someone wants to step up to the plate and start work, we might get it done sooner.

I'll help
what do you want me to do
I have zero experience with the 6.5x47 but I'll do what I can.
or do you want me to start on one for the 6.5x55 as i have some experience with several of those

Thanks for the offers guys.

For all who want to help, the key thing to start on is tabulating good loads, for a wide range of bullets, hopefully with chron data. We don't just want to reprint online data, but rather want range-tested loads that really shoot.

I also want to get info on primers--what has been tried and what works the best.

We also need to collect a couple dozen bullets to do a "line-up" photo or two. We plan to have both the 6-6.5x47 and 6.5x47 on the same Guide.

Walker,

That's such a handsome rifle. Love the pictures those Canon point 'n shoots produce.

In all her glory:

Paul,

Happy to help. :D

I will get my load data together as well as a set of the bullets I have on hand and will send your direction.

Please IM or email me an address where you would like the package mailed.

6.5x47 Lapua needs a better powder.

I've been working with a couple of 6.5x47's for the last 6 months, using both H4350 and Re.15. I'm not getting great numbers, velocity and E.S.)_from the H4350 and I haven't seen a dirtier powder than Re.15 since I got rid of my muzzle loader.

When Alliant releases their new powder RL-17, it might just be the one for the 6.5x47. Anyone hear of a release date?

Gary.

I have recently acquired both 6.5x47 and the 6-6.5x47 barrels for one of my rifles. Plan on working over both once hunting season ends in mid January and we get breaks in the weather. LMK where to send the data.

It's not my intention to capture the tread, but after reading about Darrel Jones 6,5x47L and his load experiments, it seemed like he ended up using CCI 450 primers, which are made for magnum calibers.
I have always been told that you should never use magnum primers in normal cartridges.
Anyone has an explanation of that ??

Lasse Nielsen, Denmark.

Not yet reloading for this cartridge, but have heard RL15 was a very dirty powder; anyone try a Vihtavuori powder? Their burn rate chart shows N140 to be at the same burn rate as RL15.

I was using R15, running quite hot, as soon as I backed off the powder it shot really dirty and the groups opened up. I managed to chrono some Vit N150 at the weekend,

Lapua cases, 6.5X47.
28" 3 groove Pacnor barrel.
cci 450 primers.
123 Lapua Scenar heads, moly coated.
Bullets seated 0.010" into lands.

40.5 grains of Vit N150 ran out at 3012 fps.
40.0 grains = 2980 fps
39.5 grains = 2943 fps
39.0 grains = 2914 fps
38.5 grains = 2890 fps

Hope this helps.

Jerry.

It's funny, in my 6.5 x 47 Lapua, RL15 gave great accuracy as well as good numbers, velocity, ES & SD) and burns so clean it leaves almost no powder fouling.

I've had similar excellent results with Re15 in my 6.5x47 using 123 Scenar bullets and BR-4 primers. fine accuracy, great velocity, coupled with single digit SD & ES and it doesn't seem to run dirty at all.

I did notice excessive powder soot when I first started working up loads for this powder, but I began very conservatively. As soon as I brought the MV's up to a reasonable level everything snapped into place. Emphasis on reasonable!

Robert did a lot of load development for this cartrodge pretty early in its introduction to this country. IMO some of his loads are still the best. www.6mmhot.com
