6.5x47L CBI barrel

I got my new 28" CBI bull barrel screwed on a savage action. Loaded up some new lapua brass with 120gr Berger starting load 37.5 gr Varget

I can't shoot yet my back is not quite ready, so my buddy came and got me and we went to the range. He got to shoot my new rig.

I have to say I'm more than a little impressed. I know the first few shots on a new barrel are usually the best it will ever be. But wow. It put 5 in a tiny little hole. It shoots as well as my 6br does.
The velocity is not what I wanted, but I don't really care WOW

Thanks to all who post on this forum. I have gotten quite the education in the last couple years.

T, I am very glad you are having such success with your new "toy"... The 6.5 x 47 is a phenomenal little round! You will enjoy it for quite some time! It looks like you have a GREAT shooting barrel too!

No, it is not you Dave... I have found that after about 100 rounds the velocities increase to some degree and you can really begin load development... I have also found that the rifle really begins to turn on "accuracy wise" once you start approaching 200 or so rounds... BUT I have seen barrels, like Mr. Singletons', shoot great right from the get-go... It has also been my experience that these "exceptional" barrels will generally shoot just about anything (within reason) you feed them...

I have 4 Criterions and I have been impressed with every one. My daughters 6br was good enough for a clean 450-22x mid range score. They will outshoot me for sure. Maybe someday I will need a better grade barrel but for now, I am very happy with Criterion....

I have a .223 criterion that really shows promise, unfortunatly the stock has a split in it and I have to replace that.I cant wait to get her out and play some more.I also have tried the mcgowens and they are the surprise barrels as they all shoot good. In fact My 7.62x39mm rifle which is a mcgowen shot several high.3's groups at 200 yards using benchmark and sierra pro hunter 125's.I also tried the shilens and they shoot pretty good too especially my .260 which didnt come alive till I had 300 of my rounds down the pipe for some weird reason. The 6.5x47 is the way to go and I am jealous,LOL Good luck in the future and keep us updated on the gun and your recovery which I hope is speedy.

T...glad you are having great results from the criterion barrels...they made a believer out of me! I have one in 6br and one in 6.5x284 and both shoot 1/4 moa @ 600 yards all day long! I'll stay with criterion for my savage target actions! :)

I have a friend that has that same barrel and it shoots lights out with H4350 and 130vld's. I have one in 308 and I will own more, many more! I love the Criterions! They clean easy and shoot well what else can you ask for. Matt

I have one in 260AI. I just shot my first 200-9x at 600 yards. This was after 1150 rounds. Just went to the range and shot a .150 group among several .3s and .4s. Great barrels.

Has anyone worn out a CBI in 6.5x47L yet? If so, how many rounds did it have thru it before you retired it? My first one went from 1/4-1/3 moa to 3/4 moa by 1500 rounds. Just wondering if this is common.

I don't think that is too common for a 6.5x47. 1500 rounds for that much drop off seems to be more along the lines of 243 type barrel burning. 260s and 6.5CM usually last much longer than 1500. That is unless you run if really hard and get the barrel smoking hot. Then things change. For reference http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=2140455.0
