6.5x47L bullet choice for 800-1000 yrds

guys i need some help choosing a long range bullet for my 6.5x47L that is currently being built.it will wear a pac-nor 1-8"twist 3 groove match barrel.i still haven't decided on final barrel length.was thinking around 28-29".i was thinking for ranges from 600-1000 yrds would the newer 130 gr bergers or JLK bullets be the best all round fighting wind, trajectory etc. or would 139's be best. thanks in advance

I think first you need to make up your mind which caliber you are shooting...

*6*-6.5x47L, as your thread title implies, would be looking at 105-107gr bullets or 115gr bullets.

130 or 139gr bullets would be a better choice for the 6.5x47L :D

From what I've seen from those around me shooting them... the 130s may be a touch better suited to the case volume involved than the 139/142gr bullets, if'n you are talking 6.5x47L. If the 6x47L... just got mine and I'm getting set to start working with the 105-108gr range myself... 115gr bullets seem to a little sporadic in supply for my tastes.

If it is the 6mm, then I have used the 105 Berger VLD with good success. I will also try the 115DTAC as well in the future. I have used the DTAC exclusively in my 6-284-very accurate.

If 6.5 then I would stay with the 123's to the 130's probably.
The 130 Berger VLD has been very accurate in 6.5-284,1-8.5 twist Kreiger).

I have the very same barrel as you, 28", I shoot the Lapua 123g Scenars at 300 yards and out to 600 if the wind is light and the 130 vld JLK's out to 1000 yards in "F" Class comps. Wind was very light today so I decided to shoot the 123's all day, out to 600... shot a possible 180 out of 180. Load was 39.8 grains of Vhit. 150, cci 450 primer, 0.003" off lands. Hope this is some help,

If you rifle is throated for long bullets you will find that the higher bc 140gr bullets at reduced velocities compared to 130 gr bullets will fight wind deflection better.

JLK,Jimmy Lee Knox, now retied) made custom VLD's and the business has been sold and his style bullets are available from them. I can't remember the new companies name..... 'Possum Skunk Works'? Just search 'JLK bullets' on the web and you'll probably get to the new manufacturer.

`why don't you try some Lapua 123gn Scenna's i've used them at 1000yds benchrest comps and they shoot very well 37 gns varget gives you 2900 fs in a 27' Pac-Nor --- chech the drop and speed with a good ballistics program you will be supprised regards john mc

I just orded some 308's from the JLK site, thanks for that link. I'll be back to get some 6.5's when I finish my rifle build. Should be roughly in time that he will have some in stock then too.

Seems like a pretty good guy to deal with, very easy to talk to and was willing to 'root around' and find a few,40ish) of each of the kinds I wanted to test in my 30-06. Can't complain about service like that :D
