6.5x47L and 130 Bergers?

My 6.5x47L loves 130 Bergers with 34.9grns Varget!

The only problem: I am barely getting 2,800fps, mainly 2,775 avg!

What is your thoughts on this 600 yds + ?

My thought is you need more powder in the case. I am currently running 38.2 gr Varget and 130 JLK 2960 FPS. I would try to find a higher node. 38.5 was max on my 29in Krieger.

Try H4350. From a 22" barrel, I get 2800fps with 41.5gr of H4350, Berger 130 VLD jammed 0.015". With a longer barrel you should be able to get significantly more.

I think if your rifle loves this load and it is as accurate as you want it to be, it should do fine at 600+ yards. It's all about what your gun shoots best and not a quest for the fastest velocity. Could more powder or other powders go faster? Maybe but that was not your question. How long is your barrel anyway?

38.0 RL15 and the 130 VLD's gets me ~2940 in a 29" Brux. Varget is about the same speed. I have run them up above 3000fps with 38.5 grns of RL15 with no pressure problems, but 38.0 was my spot, discovered in ladder tests. Like the other poster said, if it shoots fine for you, then no worries? JBM's ballistics page says you are above 1.2 mach all the way to 1000 yards, near sea level.

40.25 gr of H4350 (old lot) and 40.8 gr H4350 (new lot) gets me 2860 from 26", 8.5tw Krieger, jammed .010". Gives me .5 MOA most every day, all day!

With 95-100 temps at my last three matches I have dropped to 37gr. of RL15. 2900-2950fps depending on air temps. One hole groups at 100 yds.

So what do you think Dennis? You going with what you got or gonna give something else a try? It fun to know how the questions and answers ends up.

My match load for a Krieger 25" tube is 42.1g of H4350 set off by CCI450's. This is a warm load in my rifle and only went 2860 fps.

The only way I can answer this:

I will do both ;D

I did some work ups with the 130's yesterday. 40.6 of H4350 jumping .0010" gave me sub .4moa at 300yds at 2840 fps.

I then tried the 140 vld in another rifle that shows less pressure than the rifle above gernerally. 40.6 of H4350 jumping .0010" gave me sub .3moa at 300yds at 2825 fps.

The next round of testing I will try jamming .0010" to see how that works out.
