6.5x47 with sierra 130 TMK

I'm looking for a load for the 6.5x47L I have quite a number of the Sierra 130 TMKs on hand and would prefer to stick with either Varget or H4350 since I have a good supply of both.

Not sure about TMK, but I use 39.7 H4350 behind 130 Berger vld. Very accurate. 28 in Bartlien at 2850.

Both powders can/should/will maybe work well.


See what your rifle likes and develop a load.

Asking for a load is not likely to produce optimal results.

If you're looking for a generic load, goto Sierra and Hodgon and find something middle of the road and hope it shoots.

I shoot 130 Sierra Game Changers. With 37.5 gr of Varget I get 2785 fps in a 22" barrel. Pretty easy to load for. I think either powder will work well for you.

39.0 gr Varget with 130 Hornady ELDM and 130 gr Berger VLDH gives me the best accuracy and low ES. Shoots very accurate at 600 yards. 2858 FPS 22” Brux and 3000 FPS with 26” Krieger. Both 8.5 twist. Just shot 3 shots into 0.9” @ 607 yards a few weeks ago. Have shot 3 shot groups at 2.0.. inches at 800 yards. Has always been my most accurate load with Varget. Never got lesser charges to be as consistently accurate. May be to hot in some guns. Myself and 2 other friends have found this to be our preferred loads.

Use the 4350 and send me the Varget. Just mark the package "heroin". It will probably get through customs easier.

I can give you the data from the latest sierra manual.

they list for H4350 from 32.8-39.5 grs.
for Varget, 29.4-33.9 grs.

by the manual, H4350 is giving higher velocities.
also, Sierra usually goes on the light side in their data.

Try 40.0 grains of H4350, jumped or jammed. One of my best loads with the 130 TMKs was 40.0g jammed +.018"

Never had one not shoot 130s at 40g +/- a tenth or two.

Can’t help with the TMK. But in my 6.5x47’s I’ve shot the 130 Berger hunting, 130 Accubond and the 124 hammer hunter.

36gr. Varget CCI 450 with a 130 accubond shoots bug holes in mine. I like it a lot.

You really need to do a ladder test to find out what your gun likes. The above is all good info, but it is a shot in the dark (no pun intended) because your guy might not like that particular load. Patience grasshopper.
